I really was not sure if I would be running today as I've not been feeling at my best since we came back from our Christmas skiing. I've had a cold and been generally feeling run down, but I had a better sleep last night and felt I could get out.
It's not too cold at around 4C, but it may get colder this week. I was able to stick with t-shirt and shorts today. I did my usual Arlesey > Fairfield > Stotfold loop with some extensions. There were a few other runners out. It all seemed to go fairly well and I was happy to be fairly consistently under six minutes per kilometre.
Nothing too spectacular as I don't believe the max speed Endomondo shows, as usual.
I'm still thinking of doing the local half marathon in May, so I ought to start my training for that. I should really be running at least three times a week. Endomondo can generate training plans and that is what I used last year. I'd love to get under two hours this time.
I've read a few interesting health articles in The Guardian this week:
- A woman used running to help deal with anxiety and aggrophobia.
- Another woman loast 13 stone (82kg!) and talks about some of the myths around obesity based on her experience.
- We live less active lives now and we need more than exercise to stay healthy. Sitting fairly still all day is still doing us harm.
I think health is a mix of exercise, diet and attitude. Medicine can help us live longer, but it's about having a good quality of life. I don't want to be relying on drugs and struggling to get around when I'm 80.
