Arose fairly early and had a delicious shower, then took advantage of the laundry facility to wash up my dirties. After a coffee and some yogurt it could not be reasonably put off any further, so started in on a long overdue engine oil change.
There were a few messy moments. You can see that Makina's engine has a built in pump to empty the old oil. It is just to the right of the white and red wiring left of center in the picture below.
The pump makes it easy to bring out the old oil yet holding a container to the spout, pointing down to the left of the pump, is difficult to do at the same time. Some oil got away on me which caused a messy clean up.
In the end, though, Makina had fresh oil and a new oil filter (that black item with white writing on it which is right of center in the photo above).
Also sprayed a little WD40 into the ignition key's slot.
Felt like a break was in order after all that, so headed off to the local barber to get a shearing.
After the new cut headed back down the hill towards the harbour, stopping at the post office. My package had still not arrived. The panic is off as a temporary prescription was issued from the local pharmacy yesterday.
It was then off to the Laughing Whale for one of their yummy egg salad sandwiches. When back at Makina the low energy task of inspecting the belts and bolts of the engine for wear, tear or looseness was completed. Everything seemed to check out.
With a couple of more tasks to the maintenance requiring my entry into the engine space through the port lazarette, an executive decision was made to hold off on those tasks until later.
It was a lovely day. Chilled onboard doing some gaming and social media.
One great piece of news when checking social media was from a friend in Halifax. He would like to do some sailing on Makina. He has lots of experience; even having had his own sailboat a few years back. Hopefully he can join me in Lunenburg. Time will tell.
He's a published author, who was onboarded to HIVE by me, going by @optnotten on HIVE. Hopefully we can explore Mahone Bay together.
After the heat of the day did some chillin' in the cockpit.
