Went out to check the lines before turning in last night and to my great surprise the swim platform, at the stern, had collapsed like it had after Mr. Fish backed Makina into a dock of a marina while coming down the St. Lawrence River. We lost one of the metal poles/arms which supported the platform down Davey Jones' Locker at that time.
Pierre and myself had taken the platform and the one arm which remained to a metal shop in Halifax. We had a new one made and then re-attached it on Makina.
Those two tube pipes on the right hand side of the pic were my concern. One of them went to the bottom during Mr. Fish's collision. My hope was that they were still there this time.
In the morning light they were in fact visible under the water and still attached to the collapsed platform. However it was pouring rain at different points of the day so the executive decision was made to await for the weather to abate a bit. There were a couple of breaks and the two metal poles that are presently not attached were secured better by lashing them in place. Hopefully it will hold until some better weather, both rain and wind, breaks tomorrow.
It may be cutting it close for a Monday morning return to the mooring ball, yet will ask at the office tomorrow if an opening for Monday is still available. That should give me enough time and good weather to refasten the platform properly.
Nothing to do but cross my fingers tonight.
