Both Pierre and myself awoke fairly early; both anxious to get underway. Pierre took a morning shower while water was taken on board by me and the land electrical was disconnected. After a quick breakfast of portage, bananas and raisons we were ready to depart.
The morning was foggy as the following picture of us passing the Bluenose II demonstrates.
With rainfall expected by late afternoon we decided to make route for LaHave at the mouth of the LaHave River. We were told there was a great spot called The Bakery there which was a coop of a number of different businesses.
The passage covered about 30NM. Our actual course is tracked with the yellow line in the capture of our chart below.
The wind was good and somewhat in our favour for most of the passage. Glad we were that we had decided on a shorter passage, as the fog was thick and the wind blew cold. It was hard to believe that this is June!
The Bakery was very impressive. Not only did it have a full commercial bakery but a grocery section, souvenir store for the tourists and even a skateboard manufacturing shop on the upper area.
They allowed us to dock at their wharf for the night and even came out to take our lines when we came in. The proprietor, Gail, was a wonderful lady. She gave us a tour of the place and we left with an assortment of their delicious products.
With the diesel heater running to keep away the dampness we relaxed, drank coffee and feasted on the delicious creations from the Bakery. Truly, a happy port in the storm.
