In the series of introducing Fantasy Football, today I will be writing something about another FPL chips. I already discussed Wildcards and free-hit in my previous posts. I will be discussing bench boost and Triple captain chip today.
Triple Captain:
It is a fairly straightforward chip, when you activate it, the total score by your captain becomes 3 times which is twice in normal GW. You can play it once in a season, and one of my favorite chips to play in double GW.

Bench Boost
Again, it is straightforward as your team has 15 players and only 11 player score points for you in a given GW. When you activate the Bench Boost, you will score points from all the 15 players (11 from starting line up + 4 substitutes from the bench).
Both triple captain and bench boost is season defining chips if you use it wisely. Your goal should be to score big when you use these two chips. Anything between 120 points and above when you use these two chips is a good score for me. Here is a manager who combined Triple captain with double GW and scored massive 200 points. You can see how the overall ranking gonna improve in a game week where the average score is 62 and you manage to score 200 points.

When to Use Triple Captain/Bench Boost?
Double Gameweeks:
There are two big double GWs at the end of a season, at around GW 34/35 and 37. The teams involved plays twice in given GW. I prefer and suggest to use these two chips in each of these double GWs.
For the bench boost, you need to combine it with the second wildcard to have many players with 2 matches. Since you can't use wildcard and chips in same GW, you need to use wildcard 1 GW before the double GW and activate the bench boost in double GW. Having said that sometimes, there are season keeper players who should not be removed although they don't have double GW like Salah last season. It is because you will lose price value in taking him out and bringing him back again. You should do your best to have a maximum number of players with a double fixture in that GW and activate your bench boost which would give you a very big score.
Same goes for Triple Captain chips. When you use it in double GW, you captain plays twice and his points become 3 times. The basis for choosing the captain is to pick a top player with easiest of the fixture but it won't always work. Last season, it backfired many of managers. Harry Kane was triple-captained by many managers but he didn't start the first game and scored a total of 18 points (6points*3).
Any other GW:
If you think your set of player has the best fixture, you can use these chips whenever you want. Beleive me, sometimes it works but most of the time it won't. I won't recommend this for the bench boost. But for the triple captain, it might work well if the player you selected scored hattrick or big point in that GW. Last season, some managers were spot on picking Salah as triple captain against Watford, and he scored 4 goals in that single match. He collected a total of 69 points (23*3) for his managers who triple captained him. Thus, I will say triple captaining is all about the right choice of players and your luck. But the bench boost is your seasonal plan, it will only pay off in double GWs.
On the brighter note, if you play in other GWs and if get it right, you might be weekly winners and might get some prizes but very unlikely.
