The idea of an NFTBook is pretty neat. The art world has experimented quite a bit with the idea of scarce and/or utility-granting digital assets, but eBooks haven't made as big a splash.

Our HIVE writing community, Scholar and Scribe, has been in contact with the folks over at PageDAO (who operate on many chains). We're both aligned on the idea of making the web3 world work for authors—the how's and what's and why's of it all have yet to ironed out... but those irons are in the fire!

Which brings me my first inter-chain experiment with web3 publishing!

1. The horror novella Starlight Spectre was serialized here on Hive as a 17-part post series.
2. Several giveaways ran alongside this serialization (some are still ongoing!), using HIVE assets as incentives to engage with the story.
3. I then used PageDAO's MATIC minter to create Polygon based NFTBooks for the story:

I plan to give away some of these NFTs as part of the ongoing giveaways 😀

Some things to note:

• You don't need to own the NFT to use the PDF view. It is possible to do this though—I don't think PageDAO has implemented it yet.
• I'm thinking of doing P2P trades for these as well: something like 125 SCHOLAR tokens for a regular edition. This loops value in the process back to Hive.
• I minted 500 Regular Editions and 25 Collector's Editions. No real difference between them except for scarcity... but it wouldn't be hard to add "deluxe" content into the rarer versions for added value.
• Currently, PageDAO captures reselling fees on these NFTs (5%). But there are all sorts of ways to tinker with things like this, or steer the DAO towards disbursing that revenue stream to creatives, etc.
• Bringing this kind of tech to Hive NFTs is totally possible. This process was born on Polygon, but PageDAO also has it running on EVMOS too.
• You can access this minter yourself for 50 MATIC (one time payment). This is nice, coz Hive Engine already has a healthy supply of SWAP.MATIC 😀
