Majority of us dont know how to use fire extinguisher. Every day we've seen it in school, malls, in our company and hopefully at home. But no matter how many times we've pass it in our daily lives sometimes we have a little thought on how to use it.
Fire will double its size in a matter of seconds and we dont have time anymore to look for the manual. Thats why Im sharing this tips to you hopefully this can help.
Our company in Mactan Export Processing Zone Authority (MEPZA) was conducting a fire drill and how to use fire extinguisher properly.
It was discussed by one of the representative from Lapu Lapu City Fire Department.
Here are the tips on proper using of fire extinguisher
To employ the fire extinguisher with proper techniques always remember the word "PASS"
P
-pull the pinA
-aim the noozle at the baseof the fire. Hitting the tops of the
flame you got to smoother the
sucker at its best.
S
-squeeze the trigger. In ancontrolled manner squeeze the trigger
to release the agent.
S
-sweep from side to sideuntil the fire is in control.Most of the
fire extinguisher will only have 20
seconds to discharge.
Note: Fire extinguisher can only be use once! It is disposable throw it away and replace it after using.
Different types of fire extinguishers and it usage.
Fire extinguisher has a variety of types.Each one were designed to put out different kind of fire.
Class A- for ordinary solids like woods,cloth and paper products
Class B- for flammable liquids and gasses
Class C- for electric fires
Class D- for flammable metals
Class E- for oiles and grease fire.
Reminders:
Never use water on electric fire you might get electrocuted and on oil and grease it might explode and spread!
