It has been more than half a century since Isaac published the novel "Fantastic voyage" in which a group of scientists manages to reduce a species of submarine, with its crew and everything, to a size small enough to be able to inject it into the bloodstream of a patient and travel inside as a conventional submarine would.

Now a team of researchers from the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia and CIC biomaGUNE have been able to observe for the first time how a swarm of nanorobots previously injected into the bladder of a mouse moves, to be able to do this follow-up they used positron emission tomography (PET).
Ahora un equipo de investigadores del Instituto de Bioingeniería de Cataluña y CIC biomaGUNE han sido capaces de observar por primera vez como se mueve un enjambre de nanorobots inyectados previamente dentro de la vejiga de un ratón, para poder hacer este seguimiento utilizaron la tomografía por emisión de positrones (PET).
The "motors" of these nanobots work with silica nanoparticles that are associated with the enzyme urease, which breaks down the urea present in urine into CO2 and ammonia that it uses as fuel, and it also carries marked gold nanoparticles to be able to visualize their movements with the tomography.
