Let's try something new today! Instead of writing about my (filmmaking) past, the stuff I'm doing right now, I decided to share something from the past with you that you can actually use in the now.
I wrote this screenplay back in May 2009 - nine whole years ago - when I was living in Madrid. If you've read my earlier filmmaking posts, you might have remembered that I seriously started filmmaking - after a 5 year hiatus - in 2010. Nevertheless, even during this filmmaking break, I have always kept writing. Whether it were short stories, screenplays for films that have never been made or way less polished ideas.
I remember really feeling like turning this screenplay in a short film back then. But the fact that I was running out of money, not able - or willing to - find a job and having to leave Madrid again in June, led to me never making this film.
Today, while looking for inspiration to write a Steemit post, I found this screenplay on my laptop, hidden in a folder with ancient write ups. I decided to share it with you. Not just as something that I wrote in the past - not because I wanted to share the story behind it - but to inspire you and - who knows - revive the living dead.
Feel free to use this in any way you want and if you ever feel like turning it into a movie, you are welcome to do so.
Without further ado, I present to you, this screenplay from 2009. Enjoy!
And this is what I wrote at the start to make the writing a little easier. Looking back on it, I didn't use all the characters but made it easier on myself.
A young man is so obsessed by zombies that it drives him crazy.
Characters:
THE ZOMBAHOLICS:
they look really pale with red or watery eyes with big and dark bags under them. The men are carrying the type of beard that reveals that they didn't shave themselves for some days.
They're sweating almost continually, revealed by the drops of sweat on their face as well as the patches on their clothes.
They have problems with their balance and waggle around, moving/ swaying from left to right, rather than straight ahead. This makes it difficult to escape from them, when the only way to go is past them.
Unable to talk because of their thick tongue, they only mutter or scream.
They act without thinking, mainly on instinct. Which makes them stupid but at the same time dangerous in their unpredictability.
THE ‘INNOCENTS’:
Just a group of young adults or maybe a young couple, who are planning on spending a quiet night in their apartment (watching a horror movie?)
THE INNOCENT ALCOHOLICS:
To complicate the situation and to add some humour to the story, there is a group of people who - at first sight - might look like zombaholics, but aren't. They are heavy drinkers too, but aren't dangerous.
Nevertheless, they are as unlucky as to meet the innocent killers in the heat of the moment/ night, when they're only focus is on killing.
They're either butchered by the 'innocent' people, or when 'lucky' enough to escape, finished off by the zombaholics.
If you stayed with me until the end of this post, I would also advise you to give the #steemitzombies tag a look, if you haven't done so already.
It is a way to revive old posts that haven't really gotten the attention they deserved. Here's a post I wrote on that initiative started by the awesome @whatamidoing: --> Steemitzombies coming to a Graveyard Near You
