Hi friends,
The other day, I went out to a gold claim with my metal detector hoping to find that elusive giant gold nugget. This was my first time to this claim (I am part of a club that has a number of claims that members have access to), which was a couple hour drive from my house.
A creek runs through the claim and I had no idea if there would be water or not in it, so I brought my sluicing gear and my dry material gear just in case - there was no water at this time. The dirt road was in pretty good shape so that was helpful, but then I trekked through the underbrush to the claim, which was about a 15 minute hike.
Once there, the area was pretty interesting and there seemed to be decent mineralization in the area. Here are some pictures:
I mostly used my metal detector looking for nuggets - spoiler alert, didn’t find any.
What I did find were lots of bullets and buckshot. I also found a few hot rocks, but and some interesting specimens.
I did find one garnet gemstone, which looks cool closeup:
Overall, a fun day out in nature. Better luck with the giant gold nugget next time.
Thanks for coming by,
Brian
