One of Australia’s many unique marsupials, the adorable, yet fierce Koala, takes center stage on a fairly recent, annually released Perth Mint coin series. The Australian Silver Koala coin is one of the Perth Mint’s highest anticipated series every year and has quickly risen to prominence alongside the Mints Kookaburra and Kangaroo bullion series. Ever since its first striking in 2007, the Perth Mint has issued this Koala coin series with a new design each year, offering various perspectives on the tree dwelling creature.

2017 1 oz Kangaroo Privy Australian Silver Koala coins from the Perth Mint were produced with just 50,000 coins in total.
The obverse of all Silver Koala coins includes the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy has appeared on all commonwealth coinage since she ascended to the throne in 1952. This is the fourth-generation depiction created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
On the reverse of the 2017 1 oz Kangaroo Privy Australian Silver Koala coin you’ll find the eleventh design of the koala on the silver coins in this collection. This is the 11th new design, featuring a koala resting at the base of a tree. There is a small kangaroo privy mark on the reverse side in the upper-left area.
Australian Silver Koala coins issued in 2019 mark the second year of availability for the coins with .9999 pure silver content. From 2007 to 2017, the Silver Koala had .999 silver purity. Following the introduction of Australias first-ever .9999 pure Australian Silver Kangaroo, the other major bullion coins experienced a boost to .9999 content in 2018.
The Silver Koala represents the tree-dwelling marsupial that is among the most recognized symbols of Australia. The coins have a new design on the reverse each year of the koala and the 2019 pig privy Australian Koala had a limited mintage of just 15,000 coins.
On the obverse of the 2019 1 oz Australian Silver Koala Coin is the sixth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to grace Australian coins. The Queen is the Queen of England, but unlike many other commonwealths, she is formally the Queen of Australia as well. Her Majesty features in this design from Jody Clark of the Royal Mint of England wearing the Royal Diadem crown on her head and the Victorian coronation necklace around her neck.
The reverse of 2019 Australian Silver Koala Coins includes the thirteenth image of a koala. The tree-dwelling marsupial is depicted wide awake as it sits on the branch of a eucalyptus tree. The creature clutches the branch with its sharp claws and watches out for any potential predators.
