The 2019 1 oz Montserrat silver emerald isle of the Caribbean coin is yet another great product of the Scottsdale Mint.
Since 2018 the Scottsdale Mint has been producing coins for the EC8(Eastern Caribean 8) encompassing 8 Caribean Island groups in the ECCB (Eastern Caribean Central Bank) who governs currency for these Island Countries. Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Montserrat.
Montserrat is a small island sovereign state located in the northern part of the Lesser Antilles chain of the West Indies. The island is about 102 square kilometers or 39 square miles much of which is cosidered an exclusion zone do to an active valcano.
Montserrat was nicknamed "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" do to a good deal of the earlier settlers being from Ireland and because it resembles some of Ireland's coastline. There is some interesting information on the Montserrat Wiki page if you care to know more about the history of the nation.
The obverse side features a frosted center with a side view of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by a laurel wreath. The shiny outer rim is inscribed with EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK on the top, QUEEN ELIZABETH II on the bottom, .999 SILVER on the left and TWO DOLLARS on the right. This is the standard design for all of the EC8 series coins and was created by Ian Rank-Broadley.
The Reverse side features a proof like background with an Irish harp with four leaf clovers on both sides of it. The harp features an image of Erin, the female personification of Ireland. Around the out side is a decorative border, just inside of the border the inscription reads MONTSERRAT on the top, 2019 just below it and EMERALD ISLE OF THE CARIBBEAN on the bottom.
