Bees Hives
In this post we'll dive into the workings of bees and bee colonies, and why they are an inspiration for many organizations - including SmartCash. As well as taking a look at SmartCash's recent developments.
Important Bee-ing
It seems like a curious statistic to take in. But you have a bee to thank for every third bite of food you eat.
35 percent of America’s crops — about a third — rely to some extent on bees. crops like strawberries, sunflower and chestnuts are classified as having a “moderate” yield boost from bee pollination. That means they see a 10 to 40 percent addition to production from bees.
The Bee-Hive
Obviously their importance can't be understated. Unfortunate if you followed the news lately you will have probably come across mentions of the rapid decrease of bee colonies. The decrease is close to 50% in 50 years - a staggering number and scary indeed. Luckily the bees have caught the attention of many people and organizations alike and in recent years the numbers of bee colonies have stabilized.
One of the interesting aspects of the bees is the way their hierarchy is structured. A queen, the workers and the drones works in perfect unity to be as productive as possible.
Once a hive becomes too big, 'swarming' occurs. Which means a new colony will be expanded to - with a new queen and about half of the existing hive. Which is a great success for the colony, as you can probably well imagine.
SmartHive
Now I'll use this as a segway to move into SmartCash.
As this is exactly the kind of success that SmartCash has achieved. The hierarchy of bees is used as inspiration to create the most productive hive. Hence why the different teams are called 'Hive-Teams'.
Developments
The last couple of weeks have been really interesting times for the SmartCash project. I'll list some of the recent developments:
- The node-payout system got a major revamp resulting in more frequent, smaller payouts netting the same amount to increase payment stability. At current metrics you can expect a reward every ~2 days. The wait-time for smaller nodes have also been reduced to ~2days (instead of 23), allowing your new node to start earning sooner.
- 323 transactions per second with the increased block-size of 4mb.
- Support for advanced features like smartmining, smart contracts and 3rd party developers.
- Automatic wallet backups, to make sure your funds are never lost.
- Decentralized smart-rewards system - because we trust more in a system where trust isn't needed (decentralized).
- Instantpay is released for instant transactions - Imagine waiting 30seconds at your local coffee-shop. Nope
- The ability to send smart by sms or e-mail and tip friends & family on social media with the improved Tipbot.
- HDwallet - being able to have a 24 word recovery phrase on the new bitcoin core.
- And to safe the best for last: The Smartcard
SmartCard
The SmartCard is a payment method that allows Smartcash-holders to pay at merchants using SMART.
Businesses and Entrepreneurs
Merchants can set up a Point Of Sale (POS) accepting SmartCash as a payment option. All that's required is an android-phone and a wifi-connection. Merchants can register their business at https://business.smartcash.cc/ and download the SmartPay app on the playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cc.smartcash.pos . Merchants will be paid in their local currency instead of in SMART.Users & Customers
Smarties will have the ability to pay at their favorite merchants using SMART on your Smartcard, all while the merchant still receives his/her local currency. The SmartCard can be created on https://card.smartcash.cc/ .
Swarming
Because of all this success, just like bees, the SmartCash hive was able to start swarming
(& further decentralizing).
Expanding it's current three hives (Development, Outreach & Support) to a total of six
(Outreach, Web, Quality, Development, Outreach II and Support & Web).
Last words
We've come to realize that bees have an unique and effective method of organizing their work. They're efficient hard-working animals that certainly deserve some admiration.
