IMAGINE
If you were to carry out a survey on why people like #smartcash you would have various answers ranging from its quick speed of transactions to one of its many features that make it easy to use, and I am sure every list will say something about #smartrewards. By the same argument I would expect that if someone were to ask the opposite: what is it you hate about smartcash the answers would be based on something we did or didn't do as a project, what if the answer was already fixed before #smartcash came along?
Today I met a very unique mindset that I only ever encounter on Twitter, Bitcointalk and Reddit. On occasion when I encountered such people online it is easy to just put it down, to the person being in the basement on his computer with no social skills. I really did believe it was not possible for people to be so narrow minded and choose to ignore facts, scientific, technical or even mathematical.
This mindset claims "smartcash is not bitcoin, and everything we have achieved on smartcash can be done on bitcoin!!
Am I missing something? where was he when Bitcoin could not agree on block sizes? or SegWit or even the lightening network?
I started to wondered do people hold views they will never change no matter what? When these views have tangible facts that contradict them how do you justify holding these views? Please be aware I do not refer to faith or spiritual views as I am fully aware they can not be comprehended with a rational mind but a renewed or enlightened mind. I do however refer to Bitcoin and the mindset of people who if given a chance would wipe out all altcoin holders/user.
To these people being first counts for a lot. If only someone had told Blockbusters (video rental company that pre-dates video streaming) that their days were numbered, would they have believed?
Many years ago when I had a course in Philosophy - Logic and Critical Thinking which I really enjoyed. Despite being taught several fallacies to be applied to argument I am still stunned. After a series of bogus argument which I would not be repeating as I would not help spread such nonsense.
Calgary Chinook Sky - photo from my collection
One of my guiding principles in life is abundance. Its all around us. Take the sky for example, your having the beautiful blue sky in Acapulco does not stop me from having a beautiful chinook coloured sky in Calgary. Take the oceans we do not just have one but several. There is not a single resource for the human life that has just one option. We can eat, plants or animals or both. We speak various languages and dialect within the so called same languages. One thing is clear we not clones. We are not Borgs and do not have a collective view on everything. Why then do certain people presume a Bitcoin Project which started as an experience would be all and end all to everyone? It's a sad state where one deliberately deprieves himself of enjoying the abundant inovations in the crypto space only because you got a sneak peek view first. It is like not using an iPhone or Android only because you got a Nokia or Ericsson phone first. Development is supposed to be progressive, why then do we push back progress all in the name of cryptocurrency and hold on rigidly to the first version of things.
- ASIC vs GPU/CPU mining
- Bitcoin vs Altcoins
- 21 Million vs anything else to infinity coin supply
- Pre-mine vs no premine
- Code is law vs it is not law
- Automating all processes vs automating key processes
- POW (proof of work) vs POS (proof of stake)
- Mineable coins vs Issued tokens
The list goes on and on for issues we choose to be divided about. These all stem for the original document and the fear of change. Its funny how we want to choose and pick the changes we accept. It does not work that way. As Bitcoin increased in value its ecosystem developed and brought with it innovations and efficiencies. It is sad to see these being resisted despite their benefits.
CONCLUSION
When next you find yourself holding one of these views, do me a favour and ask yourself :
- Why do I think this way
- Who is the originator of this view and why did he make it
- What are the facts for and against this point of view
- Do the reasons he/she made the decision still apply
- If the person who made has the information you have available to you, would they still come to the same conclusion
- Finally step out of yourself and see the other persons point of view - you just might learn some thing
Even if you do not change your mind you have just engaged in a reasoning process which is healthy for your mental health. Repeating the same thing like a broken record can not be healthy for your minds. I do not expect everyone to love smartcash (seriously what's not to like about it?) as we are all individuals and entitled to our own views. The fact is I did not embrace smartcash the first time I was told about it, my reason had nothing to do with smartcash except the yellow shade used by the website and forum - I just could not deal with yellow. So you see we all have our quirks. Let me know or a rigid view you hold in this space and your first impression of #smartcash.
