K dramas and K pop had been bloomed over the years. Though I've watched several korean drama series which aired in the Philippines. Around 2015-2018 was the last time I've watch korean series. Last year, because of my curiosity why Squid Game became popular worlwide, I was able to watch and see for myself how beautiful it was.
I am not a teenager anymore. I do not have strong interest of romatic, love story series but I can't believe after many years Snowdrop will make me cry overnight. I love Kim Ji-Soo and Jung Hae In acting skills. It was just 16 episodes but all of thos episodes had secrets and twist.
I couldn't help myself not to right feelings and my personal review about this series. I'll categorized every special part of the story through this. (This seems to be like a short story telling)
Rome Coffee Shop (Match Sticks)
A typical teenage life that anyone would experience. Having a circle of friends going out on a group date was exciting and a bit nervous for a first timer.
It is a cute set up that match how Yeong Ro and Soo Ho first met. Feels the love at first sight was too good to be true. The match sticks was the cause of their first contact. So magical...
Rooftop
Their secret hide out. This is the place were their feelings for each other run deep. Soo ho tries to control her feeling to Yeong Ro but his heart really loves her. The place where Soo Ho saves Yeong Ro. The place where his life ended too. ðŸ˜
The Necklace
As a special gift for Yeong Ro, he gave the most important thing he had. A necklace given by her sister. He also said on a previous conversation with Dr.Kang that his necklace didn't had any amount. The necklace worth was his own life.
He give it twice to her. This is a sign that he would give up his own life for her up to the last moment. That's very painful.
Paper Airplane
They made their first paper airplane on the rooftop scene. However it is also one of the most important part of the story.
Yeong Ro wrote a letter on a paper plane and put it in the fence where Soo Ho will sees it. I don't know what place is that or maybe the North and South border.
She wrote on that letter why So hoo didn't call her after their part ways. She says that she misses him already. That's the start of the heartbreaking twist of the story.
Coffee
"Drink that special made coffee to forget those bad memories." Yeong Ro shares that making coffee in that way reminds of her mother. She urged Soo Ho that before drinking his coffee, he must chose which memories he wanted to remove.
Soo Ho says that he wants to erase the moment that he put a gun on her head. Yeong Ro also agrees and erase that memorie too. Their conversation was so true and real.
First Kiss
Soo Ho finally let his feeling to unveil. Before he kisses Yeong Ro, he told him this; erase this memorie too. OMG and he kisses Yeong Ro not just once but twice. My heart skipped a beat while watching it and the same feeling when I remember it.
Came Back To Save Her
Soo Ho came back though he was able to escape South. I think he already knew that something will happen to Yeong Ro. On the last scene on the rooftop, the cops ordered if he dropped his gone and surrender, Yeong Ro will live. He quickly dropped his gone for her.
He is already had bullte shot on his body but up to his last breath, he pushes Yeong Ro because he knew they will kill her too. He covers up and brutally killed in front of Yeong Ro's eyes.
Literally I was shocked to see it. I am not expecting this would end like this. It is a very painful ending love story that sacrifices his own life for the girl he truly loves.
Casette Tape Recorder
Soo ho's love confession had been so genuine and full of emotion here. This is the only physical/material things withSoo Ho' voice. He recorded his love confession to the same tape Yeong Ro uses to record her voice while talking about the feeling of love at first sight.
Yeong Ro plays it at Romes Coffee Shop in the same spot and seat where they first met. Her tears floods towards her cheeks. I really feel the pain and loneliness.
"If only I was an ordinary guy, I will asked you out for a date or even watch movies with you. Maybe we could be a couple doing those things together."
"I will leave but I will always remember you."
"You've bloom flower inside me who was so cold, thank you..."
"Yeong Ro, saranghaeyo..." (I love youðŸ˜)
-Soo Ho
Conclusion:
Life sometimes unfair. For Soo ho's part he regret to have a happy family. Her own mother abondoned them at a very young age. His adoptive father also uses him for his own sake which I really felt sad about his life. I remember when he said that if only he can chose which country will he born, definitely he will not chose to lived in the North.
He has a strong brotherly character and a good heart towards other people. Life seems to be so hard for him because the girl whom he wishes to be with her didn't happened. He must die for her sister to live since the North gave an instruction that he must die along with the hostage or else they will execute her sister.
I feel so sorry for Soo Ho's character here. He knew it ealier that there's no chance for him to stay alive with Yeong Ro and able to have a normal and happy life. He needs to sacrifice his own life for her. His kind heart lead to the student to escape the trapped of being killed.
This surprise me that this old man turned to be an enemy which appears on the last part was surprising too. I knew that subtitles may differ from the original korean script language but I hope that it will not make a huge difference from auto english translation.
In this series, the test of loyalty, honesty, sacrifice, good moral, betrayal, and love was seen in this series. The director, the script writer, camera man, the whole cast and off cam cast of Snowdrop gives me a heartache until now.
The last 3episodes gives a lot of surprises, twist, revelations of secrets, characters are well portray. The story is one of a kind and I am hoping to see Snowdrop get an award for this.
I had to made my tears stopped and watch behind the scenes of every episodes and remind myself that it is not a reality.
Snowdrop deserves a rating of 10/10. The story was unique and authentic. The characters are well connected for each twist and revelations. Woah! This is the longest words I've ever wrote so far.
Because of my love for Hae In and Ji-soo, I will try to draw them as a remembrance that a 32 year old me will able to return the love for watching stories like this.
I hope they will end up in real life partners too hihi ☺
Yours truly,
