Generally manufacturing sucks as it pollutes and kills however these well known factors are not well recognized by most Asian.
Polluting part is skippable as 5 year old kids know however kill part might have been less known. Here’s some gloomy facts on that manufacturing actually kills and this is one of most expensive hidden costs of manufacturing.
In order to maintain manufacturing industry a lot of Asian countries kill their people deliberately or not. Destruction of environment is clearly one thing and it causes high death toll to aged population. Especially particle air pollution became the number one cause of death to old people as the pulmonary diseases increase due to air pollution.

As you can see from above graph pulmonary disease such as lung cancer increased among olds in recent years. A lot of Asians end their life after breathing toxic air for their entire life.
When my younger brother tried to decide which medical path he has to take I suggested him to become lung doctor and I explained him about clean room facilities of local LCD factory and their failure to make it clean. A local LCD maker moved their LCD factory to the west side of Seoul in S. Korea and their product quality deteriorated due to yellow sand from China. They eventually solved the quality problem by sealing off the entire factory building with a lot of extra expenses. What is toxic to LCD manufacturing is a lot toxic to human as well.
When I heard that my brother’s hospital relocated at Songdo in Incheon I wasn’t surprised as the city is located in the coastal line of S. Korea facing China where Chinese polluants keep coming with westerly wind.
The pollution in S. Korea is as lethal as that of China where air pollution is notoriously toxic but the epic prime of lethality of air pollution comes not from China but from Japan. Japan currently has the most polluted and lethal air in the world. It is due to fucking Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Very few knows however why Fukushima melt through happened and why Japanese government reignited their nuclear power plant even after Fukushima melt through. Simply put it is to make Japanese car cheaper so that they can export Japanese car cheaper than their archrival Germans which has almost 0 nuclear power plant and heavily dependant on new and renewable energy.
Cheap energy such as coal, oil or nuclear (looks cheap to those short sighted or blind) kills people with their all sort of pollutions. But people really don’t connect this to the cause of their death. With this pollution and stuffs medical bill of their people explosively increases and stresses the nation’s financial stability visible and invisible.
Of all hidden costs of manufacturing the most expensive cost is the socio culture expenses from it. Most manufacturing sectors have been evolved as a part of military operations and war campaigns. Therefore the culture of manufacturing sector is heavily influenced by military and it is still the same.
Notorious manufacturing countries like Germany, Japan, Twain and S. Korea share one common thing. It’s trooper mentality and it really hurts. When I write on IOTA Tangle issue I made some translated into Korean and I got blamed for not specific or not precise from those troopers from different countries. As the IOTA community is lethal toxic I just posted my findings in private and trusted community however they were as toxic as suggested. Any IOTA fan in any country is as stormtrooper as they are in Germany especially in those manufacturing countries.
Once you get used to this manufacturing culture and trooper mentality you will never get used to other softer culture of service or software industry and this is fucking deadly side effect of manufacturing industry.
Developed and refined culture usually becomes sophisticated and subtle while trooper culture stays at military boot camp where a lot of bullying and yelling still works. With this you can not actually develop high value service industry or flexible software industry. Nobody sane would want to get their service from SA stormtroopers. Those with stormtrooper culture would not evolve because it is their dead end of evolution. I really hope German, Japanese and others never make any software so that nobody would experience unpleasant experience like me.
On the contrary, software sector does not pollute nor impact environment. There might be some influence from software industry such that you have to think to produce something. Labor from manufacturing does not require that much of thinking however software absolutely needs mental labor not only physical labor. Someone with trooper mentality might not like this.
With trooper mentality and culture from manufacturing a country would never be grown into democratic country. Most strong manufacturing countries were authoritarian countries with a lot of criminal records on crime against humanity and seem still to be. It won't be coincidental.
Therefore facilitating software consequently receives huge bonus such as democracy, equality, freedom of conscience and etc. Some country might have greater fear on this and keeps facilitating their manufacturing in order to maintain their authoritative rogue regime.
Used to work as a software engineer however strongly believe your surrounding makes who you are. You can grow up as a racist with your racist family and friends as depicted in the movie, “Mississippi burning” Trooper mentality is same thing. With all your family and friends with stormtrooper mentality you can hardly grow up as a liberal open progressive person. Your surrounding determines who you are just like the theory of environmental determinism from many geographers. That’s the most expensive cost of manufacturing.
