When solar cell first became available to the public in the mid 1970s; their cost of $75 per watt, limited their usefulness. Today, the cost of some of the newest tech is below $0.50 per watt; and they project it will go much lower. They discuss $0.08 per watt in THIS video!
Time to seriously consider running at least portion of your home on Solar power; maybe lights and refrigerator to start. Especially with the smart meters and the disgusting state of our power grid! I lost power twice last week, for a combined time over an hour. I have high lines visable from my back door; and a sub station 3 blocks away, as the crow flies! So this failure was not out in the boondocks, nor was it a great distance from the switch gear. We may not need to have a grid down situation, to actually BE grid down!
I am adding Solar as fast as I can purchase the components! :)
