Jason silva references one of my favorite writers of all time, Ray Kurzweil. He talks about how future human artist's will write gene sequences and change the fabric of reality. Humans literally today have the power to do this and its growing 3 times faster than moor's law has predicted. That's three times the growth of exponential. Consider the implications that might have for future generations going forward. If treated with respect that level of technology could shatter barriers in every industry. In medicine most if not all ailments could be fixed including diseases, viruses, broken bones, genetic diseases especially and more. For construction in combination with 3d printers you could build especially efficient and complex structures. You could build with nano materials that have super insulative properties, 3d printed electrically conductive materials for a fully integrated and secure electrical grid and more.
One of the more exciting prospects to think about is what these breakthroughs in technology could allow us to accomplish in space. For just one example of many; for those who don't know humans lose bone and muscle structure from atrophy when in space for long periods of time. Its caused from lack of gravity but this problem could theoretically be fixed with some tweaks to someone's genetic code. That's of course not the only route as you could always simulate gravity by spinning around a weight behind the space station.
