The universe is a strange place. Stranger than anything you can imagine. They don't say "truth is stranger than fiction" for no reason, you know! If you have spent some time learning about all the bizarre things that exist in the universe, you already know what I'm talking about.

There are extreme places where the laws of physics themselves break down (yes, I'm talking about black holes), then there are places that make no sense at all (like the Bootes void) and also planets which have highly extreme atmospheres that you won't be able to believe are real!

Take, for example, a planet named PSR J1719-1438 b which is made of pure diamond. Yes, pure diamond! Another planet named HD 189733b has rains of glass. You'd be cut into more pieces than you can count if you stood at the surface there.

Then there is a planet named Gj-504b which is completely pink. Similarly, there are many more bizarre planets as these. Recently, scientists discovered a new strange planet where it rains liquid iron!

Iron Rain

WASP-76b is an exoplanet that is 640 light-years away from us in the Pisces constellation. It was discovered by astronomers from the University of Geneva using the European Southern Observatory (ESO).

The planet is tidally locked to its sun. This means that one side of the planet always faces its sun while the other is always in darkness. Our moon is also tidally locked to our planet. Hence the "dark side of the moon".

WASP-76b has such a strange atmosphere and chemistry that on ultrahot days, the iron in the atmosphere is vaporized. Yes, the iron literally gets vaporized! This iron is taken to the colder half of the planet which doesn't receive light. There it gets cooled which creates an iron rainstorm.

This shows how there are really bizarre planets out there with unbelievable atmospheric conditions. How many more planets are there with such strange phenomena? I sure can't wait to read about a planet that is entirely radioactive! How cool would that be?
