And it was recently announced that the Rimping supermarket in Chiangmai, Thailand, put aside the plastic bags and preferred to wrap their products with banana leaves.
This is a great idea that can be used in the State, since the banana tree is sown here, from which the leaves are extracted, since the banana demands a warm climate and a constant humidity in the air, with prolonged and regular rains .
According to 2018 statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sagarpa) in Yucatan there are 260 hectares dedicated to this fruit, of which 140 hectares are located in Akil.
In addition, among the traders of the markets "Lucas de Gálvez" and "San Benito" it is known that the largest production of banana leaf comes from Akil.
The banana leaf is used for the pib, chicken or buried piglet, pibitos, vaporcitos, among other dishes, but especially in the tamales, so that its production is not scarce in the entity.
As NEWS YUCATÁN reported, soon the plastic bags and straws would be removed in bars, restaurants and convenience stores, within a period of one year, and those dedicated to the sale of them in a period of 18 months.
Designed together with the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra), its partners and companies in the field, the State Government launched this strategy called Towards a Zero Waste Yucatan, which seeks to gradually move to the replacement, elimination and consequent ban on plastic bags for the purpose of transportation, loading or moving of goods, as well as plastic straws.
