I had been on an evening walk today and as I looked at the sun, it reminded me of the term "Sun-Gazing". @starangel had suggested me to do this a few weeks ago and had mentioned that it had various health benefits.
What is Sun-Gazing?
As simple as it sounds, Sun-Gazing is watching the sun for a short amount of time during safe hours for about 10 seconds (5 seconds if you have sensitive eyes.) and incrementing the time everyday by 10 seconds (5 seconds if you have sensitive eyes.) so that by the 10th day, you'll do it for 100 seconds. It should be ideally practiced barefoot on bare earth.
Continue this until you reach 44 minutes. This is all required to reap the maximum benefits of Sun Gazing and this may take around 10 months. After you reach this you may stop doing it and just walk for half an hour in the sun everyday.
By safe hours, I mean half an hour after sunrise and half an hour before sunset. This is the time when the sun doesn't emit UV rays and is safe for the human eye.
CAUTION: You might end up damaging your eyes if you do it at wrong times.
When you're gazing at the sun, visualize your body filling with the energy of the sun and rejuvenating your body. If you feel irritation in your eyes, stop doing it.
Benefits?
It is said to improve eyesight, remove stress, increase your energy, helps in weight loss, boosts serotonin and melatonin - the feel good hormones, reduce hunger, increased intuition, and most importantly increase the size of your Pineal Gland. This really increases our potential as human beings.
Apart from that, I personally have been jogging in the evening sun and have experienced an increase in energy, motivation and a boost in the new ideas that come to my mind.
There is a man called Hira Ratan Manek who re-discovered this technique, yes, re-discovered, because this was known long ago and practiced in the ancient times but the newer generations had forgotten about it. Under a study, HRM could stay without food for over a year only on sunlight and water diet.
Studies showed that continuous exposure to sun had increased the size of his Pineal Gland and it was found to be around 2x larger compared to other humans.
