Well Splinterlandians... I am flabbergasted.
That's right... downright befuddled.
I'm out of Olde English colloquialisms so I'll just get to it!
You know how ol' Dingus has been salty due to the ultra crappy GF Airdrop rate of 1.48% (vs 4% avg)...
Well last night in MavChat, some SERIOUS OG named "LegendaryUnicorn" was talking about GIVING AWAY a couple of Dragon Whelps...
If you're not familiar, Dragon Whelp is a Common, Dragon Monster from the Promo set - keep in mind, they're not especially powerful... But they're pretty rare and REALLY FREAKING AWESOME!! I had wanted one since I saw it back when I started playing but couldn't justify the expense 😒
I was like "Pffffffft no way, who would give that out, those are kinda pricey" but I read back a bit and lo and behold... They WERE.
FOR. NO. REASON.
Other than: "I just want to give some of these out to the newer players who might not have one"... 😳
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day, these were like $1 vs the current prices of around ~$35... Holy crap that 35x though!
Here's the start of it:
After giving a few away (ON HIS BIRTHDAY NO LESS - HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN 🎂)
He says "3 more whelps out there, convince me"...
Now... I'm not big on convincing people... Unless it's about health... that's another story though.
But I figure - hey, I've had some bum luck with the airdrops, I really want a Whelp... Maybe he'll help a brother out with a Whelp... Maybe not... Either way, that's just AWESOME to see this kind of community - paying it forward like this!
This reply comes and apparently he got a kick out of our guild name 😅
I still wasn't sure if he was serious or just having some fun on his bday pulling some legs until...
I couldn't believe it - he was going to send a Dragon Whelp!
I didn't want to "convince" him by telling the story of how Dragon Whelp was one of the three rares that came in my first, Revised Edition, Magic: the Gathering starter decks that I bought with my allowance when I was 11!
It was my VERY FIRST RARE CARD in MTG and for nostalgic reasons, I would be insanely happy to have a Dragon Whelp in Splinterlands!
I was STUNNED when it actually happened! A part of me knew it was happening... but when it hit my account... #floored.
It made me sit back and think - you know... I'm #Salty over my bad luck... but for no reason, other than to make people happy and feel good about it... this guy is giving out rare/valuable cards to people who don't have them... JUST. BECAUSE. HE. CAN.
I went from Salty, all the way across the board to fucking #Charitable because - I love GIVING gifts... but I, for whatever reason, HATE getting them.
I feel awkward when people give me things - that's why I didn't want to work too hard at "convincing" someone to give me something... bleh
Immediately after receiving it, I knew what I must do...
Now... I know what you might be thinking... and I thought it too, briefly...
"How are you a Mav, purchasing at least 1,000 packs, yet claiming not to have a Carnage Titan".
But you know what, I didn't care. I wanted to and I do believe they don't have one.
So I sent one of my Carnage Titans to @altumns because I wanted to pay it forward instead of being a salty little bitch.
To top it all off, Altumns sent LegendaryUnicorn a BDay gift in return - full circle.
I knew I liked this game, maaaaybe even loved this game... But this act of kindness, by some stranger in MavChat confirmed - nay, CEMENTED in my mind... that not only do I love the Game... but I love the Community too...
Now if we could just do something about GenChat... they're saltier than I ever was and don't seem to understand not to rub salt in peoples wounds...
PS: If someone is feeling sore about something... don't "Reply" to them with "Oh yeah, look how good I am!" - I feel as if I shouldn't have to explain this but it was quite evident to me, many people didn't understand that doesn't make the OP feel better... unless you plan on giving them some of your good fortune 🤦♂
I hope you enjoyed that - I am still shocked and in a state of disbelief...
I will post updates as to how many GF Airdrops I do receive... but you know what... even if it's 0 more... while I will be very disappointed... I won't be salty.
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you have a wonderful Salt Free day :P
Cheers 🍻,
