Some of you may have heard about the newest game from the team behind Splinterlands. Its official announcement, by all indications, should come sometime during the upcoming Splinterfest. This game is usually referred to as a "tower defense game" or just a "TD game". And I'm not sure if everyone here knows what the principle behind tower defense games is.
Někteří z Váš už možná slyšeli o přepravované hře od týmu, který stojí za Splinterlands. Její oficiální oznámení by, dle všech indicií, mělo přijít někdy během nadcházejícího Splinterfestu. O této hře se většinou mluví jako o „tower defense game“ nebo jen „TD game“. A nejsem si jistý, zda všichni tady ví, v čem spočívá princip tower defense her.
Well, it is a very specific genre of computer games, which could probably be classified as RTS (real team strategy) . If you were to look it up on wikipedia, you would read that its roots go back to the 1980s, a time when arcade machines ruled the gaming world. The legendary game Space Invaders and several others are cited as examples.
Inu jedná se o velmi specifický žánr počítačových her, který by se zřejmě dal zařadit do skupiny RTS (real team strategy) . Pokud byste se podávali na wikipedi, tak byste se dočetli, že jeho kořeny sahají až do 80. let minulého století, do období, kdy hernímu světu vládly arkádové automatu. Jako příklad je uváděna například legendární hra Space Invaders a několik dalších.
In my opinion, this example is quite inaccurate to the point of being misleading and does not fully show what "towers" look like today. In my opinion, the popularity of these games is primarily tied to **Warcraft III **and specifically its fan modifications, which laid the foundation for the genre as we know it today and were extremely popular in their day. I myself would be hard pressed to count the number of sleepless nights we've spent at various lan-parties with just "towers".
Dle mého názoru je tento příklad dost nepřesný až zavádějící a úplně neukazuje to, jak vypadají „věžovky“ dnes. Dle mého názoru se popularita těchto her váže především ke hře Warcraft III a konkrétně jejím fanouškovým modifikacím, které položily základ tomuto žánru, tak jak ho známe dnes a ve své době byly extrémně populární. Sám bych těžko spočítal, kolik probdělých nocí jsme na různých lan-párty strávili právě s „věžemi“.

The principle of the game is very simple. On the game map, paths are laid out where enemy units walk, usually in waves. The task of the player (or players) is to build towers around these roads, which will destroy all enemies before they reach their destination. For each unit killed, the player then receives resources that can be used to build more towers or upgrade existing ones.
Princip hry je velmi jednoduchý. Na herní mapě jsou vytyčeny cesty, kde chodí nepřátelské jednotky a to většinou ve vlnách. Úkolem hráče (nebo hráčú) je postavit kolem těchto cest věže, které zničí všechny nepřátele, před tím, než dojdou do cíle. Za každého zabitou jednotku pak získá suroviny, které může použít ke stavbě další věží, případně k vylepšení stávajících.
Of course, there are a variety of enemies and a variety of tower types that you can build. Towers that give very high damage but have a low cadence, towers that slow the enemy, towers that only attack air units and many more. The same goes for enemy units that have different characteristics and different tactics for each. The point then is to combine the right composition of turrets and survive the last wave of enemies.
Samozřejmě existuje celé řada nepřátel a celá řada typu věží, které můžete stavět. Věže, jež dávají velmi vysoké poškození, ale mají nízkou kadenci, věže, které zpomalují nepřítele, věže, které útočí jen na letecké jednotky a mnoho dalšího. To stejné platí i pro nepřátelské jednotky jež mají různé vlastnosti a na každou platí jiná taktika. Smyslem pak je nakombinovat správné složení věží a přežít poslední vlnu nepřátel.

Většinou se hrálo proti počítači, který generoval nepřátelské jednotky. Ale existují i varianty kdy stojí dva živý hráči proti sobě, kdy nejen staví věže, ale zároveň i generují pohyblivé jednotky s cílem projít základnou protihráče. V takovém případě je pak trik v tom, obelstít soupeřovu kompozici věží se správným složením jednotek.
A few days ago, the game developers posted the first hint of what their game will look like on Discord. And so far, I think it looks like a classic recipe for a good „towers“. I'll explain in a minute.
Tvůrci hry před pár dny uveřejnili na discordu první nápovědu, jak bude jejich hra vypadat. A myslím, že zatím to vypadá jako klasický recept na dobrou věžovku. Hned vysvětlím.
1) In the first box we see some kind of pedestals, if I had to guess, these are places where it will be possible to build towers.
1)Na prvním políčku vidíme jakési podstavce, kdybych měl hádat, tak se jedná o místa, kde bude možno stavět věže.
2) In the second box we see an already built tower, the same as in the fourth box.
2) Na druhém políčku vidíme již postavenou věž, stejnou jako na čtvrtém políčku.
3) In the third box we see the monster icon. It very likely shows where the enemy units will come from (or to).
3) Na třetím políčku vidíme ikonu monstra. Velmi pravděpodobně ukazuje odkud (nebo kam) budou chodit nepřátelské jednotky.
4) On the fourth square we see a part of the menu. We can read "Wave" and "Start". The tower icon is also interesting. It probably shows how many towers of a given type you can still build and how much resources it will cost to build it.
4) Na čtvrtém políčku vidíme část menu. Přečíst lze „Wave“ a „Start“. Zajímavé je taky ikona věže. Pravděpodobně zobrazuje, kolik věží daného typu ještě můžete postavit a kolik Vás bude její stavba stát surovin
From various statements, we know that cards from Splinterlands will be used in this game. Based on the design, I'd venture to guess that the towers and map are of the death element. I would guess the monster icon is the fire element. I wouldn't be surprised if the principle of the game is player vs player. And, for example, summoned units would be based on what cards you own in Splinterlands, and conversely, building towers would require acquiring new cards unique only to this new game.
Z různých vyjádření víme, že v této hře půjdou vyžívat karty ze Splinterlands. Podle designu bych si dovolil tipnout že věže a mapa připadá elementu smrti. Ikonu monstra bych odhadoval na element ohně. Vůbec bych mě tedy nepřekvapilo, kdyby princip hry byl hráč versus hráč. A například vyvolávané jednotky se odvíjeli od toho, jaké karty vlastníte ve Splinterlands, a naopak pro stavbu věží by bylo nutné získat nové unikátní karty jen pro tuto hru.
