It's been a long time since we've been able to buy any Splinterlands cards less than 10 cents, in fact I'd guess it's literally been 3-4 months since the last 10 cent card was actually sold.
But now they're back thanks to the consistent offloading of reward cards by the bot owners looking to convert their tiny efforts into actual money.
And that's great for the players right?
But before you jump in and start buying up big, consider this.
Those 10 cent cards are gonna be worth a lot less in just a few weeks, and even less in a few more weeks because the bot owners will keep claiming and selling those rewards every day until they find a point where it's cheaper to burn them for DEC.
Currently the burn rate is 5 x $0.00563 = $0.02 (about 2 cents)
(5 DEC is the burn value for a 'New' Common Reward)
So why is this even happening?
Well bot owners are looking for a return on their investment as quick as they can and supply often outpaces the demand. (One bot owner appears to have over 5000 bots, which is a lot of daily quest reward cards hitting the market, and driving those market prices down)
But to be honest these 10 cent cards don't provide a lot of playable value for the lower end of players in Bronze League with most not really becoming useful until level 4-6 which in turn requires expensive summoners to use them.
So there's limited demand amongst the bulk of new players and thus prices continue to head down.
Surely this won't last?
Well unfortunately we're likely to see these low prices for several months now as Splinterlands introduced new drop rates for these cards at 20X the previous drop rates, so to put a number on it.
There will be:-
- 8M Commons
- 2M Rare
- 800K Epic
- 200K Legendary
per card.
Ouch!
So there's still a long way to go on this downward price pressure with only 2% of the cards released so far.
And don't be surprised if I'm not talking about 10 cent rare cards in the months to come.
So I definitely won't be buying any of these new reward cards anytime soon, because as long as the bot owners continue to dump rewards on the market, there will always be cheaper cards tomorrow...
