Sometimes in Splinterlands, you just want a card that does a bit of everything. Gramel the Hunger is one of those units that makes you stare at the board and wonder how to even counter him properly. The mix of stats and random targeting makes every turn unpredictable and that’s both fun and dangerous while Relentless Strike makes his attacks unable to be reduced when attacking units with Shield or Void.\
He’s not your traditional attacker and he doesn’t need to be. You play Gramel the Hunger when you want high pressure on random targets and don’t care where the chaos lands as long as it hits hard. In the right rule set, he becomes that unit that is very annoying and hard to deal with at the same time.

Let's talk about… Gramel the Hunger

“It wears your face. It speaks with your voice. And when it claims its next victim, it’ll eat them with your mouth.”
Portia Nyr summoned Gramel the Hunger and its arcane skinwalkers from the Plane of Chaos to serve the Conclave Arcana. But in her boundless ambition and pride, she mistook dominion for submission.

Buy and Rent:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The buy price for Gramel the Hunger feels just okay for now based on the market. Personally, I feel it's very high and expensive, but at the same time, inflation hit Splinterlands after Chaos Legion left and that's just the regular price now. On the other hand, this price may also still increase in the future. I think once players figure out better combos or once there are new units from Conflict released with abilities supporting Gramel (cough Martyr cough), the price could go up even higher.

Rental price is decent considering what this unit can do. You’re getting a lot of damage types, plus Camouflage and Relentless Strike, which makes him annoying to deal with. I’d say rent now before people start using him more.

Rule Sets:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Use it in... |
![]() All units gain True Strike (attacks will never miss). With three types of damage landing every round, never missing just makes Gramel the Hunger way more consistent and dangerous. |
![]() All units have Blast (deals an additional 50% damage to units adjacent to the target, rounded up). Blast paired with Scattershot makes Gramel the Hunger incredibly annoying as his random targeting also means random damage across the enemy’s backline. Each of his attacks have a separate Blast attack. |
![]() All units have Close Range (can use ranged attacks from the first position). Since Gramelthe Hunger has ranged attack, this rule set allows him to stay in the front line when all your tanks fall and keep attacking with all of his attacks without penalty maximizing his damage all throughout the battle. |
Avoid using it in... |
![]() Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities. If you're relying on a summoner to boost his attacks like Lorkus, then you will have such a bad time in this rule set. |
![]() All Units have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat. Gramel the Hunger has both melee and range attacks that can be hindered by armor. Both of these attacks are blocked by armor making this rule set a bad one for him especially if Gramel the Hunger is the only unit you have that has melee and range attack. |
![]() All units have Thorns (returns 2 damage to attacker when hit by a melee attack) Gramel the Hunger has a melee attacks which triggers Thorns and with no way to avoid that extra damage he takes hits every time he attacks in melee. |

Battle Strat: In this battle, I have Gramel the Hunger combined with Lorkus. I was testing if the Life Leech and Affliction from Lorkus will work with Gramel the Hunger. Lorkus also gives extra 1 melee and 1 magic attack to all of my units which Gramel the Hunger have both. If all things get in line and work, Gramel the Hunger should be able to rack in amazing health from Life Leech since he should get health per attack, which would be up to thrice per turn, each per attack.
Battle Summary: The idea worked very well. Gramel the Hunger was earning up to 3 health per round. I was honestly hoping some high health at the very end but Gramel the Hunger gaining 3 health and getting 2 free damage from Burning from Kha'zi Conjurer's Incendiary debilitation, it wasn't as good as it should look towards the end. I can see a lot of potential for this though especially if you combine him with a healer like a level 2 Inept Healer or Arachne Weaver. For this experiment, worked really well.
