Hi everyone! Time for another explainer for Splinterlands, because it's a great game but with a steep learning curve, but then again... most good games have the same.
In the splinterlands collaboration with the Wasder app, we made a new guild to support and guide new players, and I started writing explainers to refer to, because it's just too much to simply tell people in our discord server.

Almost every new player makes the same mistakes joining the wrong frays in brawls, to find out they can't play because they don't have the required cards, yes, of course this happened to me too 😅
But first.. what are brawls?
Brawls are similar like tournaments in which Guilds fight together against other Guilds, competing to earn Crowns to further level up the guild buildings for better rewards and perks. Individually you also earn merits, these are used to buy Gladiator packs.
Each Gladiator pack contains 5 cards just like other packs you buy, these powerful cards cannot be sold but will help you greatly in your battles, they all have the powerful bloodlust ability.
On top of that, every member will also earn SPS by participating in the brawls.
it's Guild vs Guild arena combat, similar to Anytime tournaments, but with several guilds all facing off against each other, you and your guild team mates all work together to get the best rewards possible.
Not all Guilds fight in the same brawl. There can be many Brawls ongoing simultaneously. Up to 10 guilds of the same Tier are randomly grouped together for each Brawl.
You can use all available cards, both modern and wild, depending on which fray you chose of course.
Brawl Cycles
Each brawl takes 5 days, with different phases:
Phase 1 - Prep Stage: (2 days) In this phase, guild members decide which Frays they would like to join before the combat starts. each Fray has different level limits, card editions, and allowed foils. So you can pick Frays that are best suited to your play style and individual strengths.
Phase 2 - Combat Stage: (2 days) This stage is similar to a traditional Anytime tournament. You'll have 48 hours to select teams for all your battles, and you will fight the players in other guilds who also joined the same Fray.
The only difference is: you can't see your opponents previous battles, so you have no idea whatsoever what he or she is going to play.
Phase 3 - Results Stage: (1 day) Once the combat is over, you can see the results of the Brawl, how many crowns the guilds won, and how many merits each fully participating member of the guild won. If you failed to submit your battles, you won't get rewards.
How to Participate
To participate in a brawl, you must be in a guild, and your guild must have at least a level 1 Arena building. Yes, our new guild has exactly that!
In your main game screen, search for GUILDS like in the picture above.
After that, click BRAWL
Brawl Frays
During the first stage, each guild member can choose one of the available Frays to fight in. A Fray is similar to Anytime tournament groups, except each Fray has different level limits, card editions, and allowed foils.
So it's important you choose a fray you can at least play, AND that matches your deck level; if you have a maximum of level 3 card in your deck and you select a fray where the maximum level is much higher, the odds you're gonna win are not very big 😆
Only in case of a draw in wins, the losses will count, obviously the guild with the lowest amount of losses will be the winner
Brawl Tiers
Brawl Tiers can range from 1 star to 5 stars. Our main guild Legion I is in tier 2, Legion II is in tier 1.
Guilds that are in the same Tier will be matched against each other. Higher Tiers generally mean more guild members can participate at once, the Frays are more challenging, and the potential rewards are greater.
In the picture to the right you can see my guilds full fray list, we now have 16 frays to fill, and we filled 14 of them so that's not bad.
The first fray on the list is the lowest level, while going further down the list the requirements grow.
KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN YOU JOIN A FRAY
To the right of the Fray number are the requirements: when we look at fray 1, it tells you, the maximum level you can play in this fray is level 1 for common, rare, epic and legendary cards, but it's not all, there's another icon the the right of it, when you hover over it you can read what it means:
All cards playable may be used.
When we look at fray 6, you can see the level limits are level 3 common cards, level 2 rare and epic cards, and level 1 legendary cards. Which won't be a problem, but there's an important reason this fray hasn't been filled by anyone:
Only the Beta Set may be used! This is why you have to carefully look at the requirements when you join a brawl. If you don't have the required cards, you will automatically lose, and you won't get rewards.
It's the same with fray 15, where only Gold cards are allowed, yes, you're gonna need gold foil Summoners AND Monsters, and since we only have 3 players with gold foil decks, fray 15 is empty
