Hello everyone,
Splinterlands can be quite complex. From gameplay and strategy to earning and markets there's a lot to unravel. This is why I decided to share 5 tips that will hopefully help newer players out. These will cover all sorts of aspects of the game and while some may seem very obvious other's might not. This is part II of the series. Part I can be found here.
Without further ado let, let's get into it!
Tip Number 1

Using the bid function on PeakMonsters. I've already covered PeakMonsters and their bidding tool in this card flipping guide. You can use it in the same way to buy cards for your collection or for renting and get better prices. You do have to hold the Dollar amount of your bids in DEC, but with the ongoing SPS Airdrop, this will actually earn you passive SPS, while you're waiting for your bids to get filled. Depending on the volume of the card being traded, you don't always need to be the top bidder. Sometimes third to fifth is enough to scoop up some cheap copies with a little bit of patience.
Tip Number 2
Using Splintertools to test cards, line ups and strategies. Splintertools is a third party website, that offers a variety of services.
- In the "Train" tab you can replay your battles with the site showing you your win percentage. If you've lost for example, you could switch up the line up to see what would've worked better.
- In the "Custom" tab you can freely build teams to fight each other. The site shows you the exact battle log and win percentage. This is great for testing cards you're considering adding to your collection or even whole decks you're planning to purchase. (For example I thought about buying an Obsidian magic team, which I ran against the most prominent teams I face in Silver and found out that it's chances weren't too great against most of them.)
- Finally you can download an extension, which will give you stats and percentages on your team while you're submitting it live.
All of this is completely legal, since Splintertools only takes public information provided by Splinterlands. Aggroed addressed this in a previous Town Hall.
Tip Number 3
Using Splinterboard to see what the best players play. Splinterboard is a third party website as well, which collects the top battles from each league hourly.
You can select all kinds of options, like which league , which rulesets and even specific cards, via the search function. This is an amazing tool for you to get better, because you're given the most successful line ups from the best players in the game and you can narrow it down specifically to your needs.
Say you're playing General Sloan in Silver. Just put in the information and get a sense of what the best cards to play Sloan with are.
Or you're always losing a specific ruleset. Just check out how the pros play it to get a better understanding of the game.
The Website is still in Alpha so it's not all perfect, but it already works really well.
Tip Number 4
Deck building basics. Like I mentioned in Part I of this series, I'm a proponent of building one or two strong decks in the beginning rather than four to five mediocre ones. The reason being is that most of the time you'll get your splinter, especially in the lower leagues, where you'd start as a new player.
With that being said, the first step to building a deck is always buying the summoners. Because without leveled up summoners, you can't play leveled up monsters. This can be quite the grindy process and it doesn't feel as rewarding, because your summoners don't get any new abilities while you level them up, but trust me, once you got them to the level you need them you're going to be super happy. After that you'd go on to level up your monsters.
Another way, if maybe you don't have the funds to level up a summoner to Silver league, is to buy single copy epics and legendaries. These are usually very strong at level one already and will give you an edge over everyone who's only using the starter cards. They'll also come in handy in bronze league tournaments, where the maximum level for legendaries is 1.
This is what that "strategy" looks like. On this account I have a more or less maxed out Chaos Legion water deck and an all level one cards earth deck with the addition of a couple of epics and legendaries. As you can see my rating is quite high for Silver 3, because I'm winning so many games.
Tip Number 5
Watching streams to get better at the game. Sometimes doing something, in this case playing the game, isn't the best way to improve. Sometimes there's also an ECR which kind of prohibits you from grinding day in day out. Similar to tip number 3, checking the best player's line ups, watching the best players play might help you.
There's a bunch of streamers with educational and entertaining content and Splinterlands itself has created SplinterlandsTV. A Twitch channel where content creators, streamers and people from the community stream all sorts of content, from tournaments and ranked grinds to discussions about the game.
I highly recommend you check it out!

None of this is financial advice. These tips might all fall out of date as both Splinterlands and the Crypto Market in general are subject to constant change. As for now though, I do hope there's something useful and helpful for the newer players of our community to be found.
