The current Season of Splinterlands is almost half over and I have just managed to unlock Gold II with great difficulty. Usually I am comfortably in Gold I by now planning on how to break into the Diamond Leagues but this time my ride is going to be much tougher and it seems unlikely I will make it to Diamond this time.
Experimentation Gone Wrong with Survival Mode!
This fiasco happened as I felt adventurous enough to try out the new Survival mode launched by Splinterlands. I was eager to try it out as since Wild started charging entry ticket I have only been playing Wild mode which means I have not used more than 50% of my cards for a year. This seemed like a good opportunity to put them to use as Survival mode allows use of Wild cards without any extra fee.
I was aware of the risk that in survival mode the cards that lose will die for the current season and will be useless in any mode till start of next season.
I thought to myself I have so many cards I have nothing to worry about.
After a losing spree I realised I was not able to use higher level of any of my cards, this made me realise all my favourite levelled up summoners had died. I somehow did not realise that the summoner dies as well after you lose a fight and I only have 1-2 good levelled up summoners for each element.
By the time I realised my goof up half of my good summoners had died. I finally had the sense to stop playing Survival mode and went back to Modern Ranked play with my remaining summoners. This put me at a severe handicap as now my team was very weak for the elements where my summoners had died.
I still decided to tough it out and somehow managed to hot Gold II League today.
How Were the Rewards Unlocked for Gold II?
Since the last few seasons I have noticed that I am not getting a high number of cards. There are more portions, energy, merits etc but getting a big bag of merits is a good reward and even if you get few cards but bag the Epic or Legendary you were waiting for a long time more than makes up for it.
When I opened the chests I noticed a similar trend and I was disappointed that I got very few cards. However my disappointment turned into a pleasant surprise once I opened the last chest.
It had the Epic Arachne Weaver which I had been waiting for a long time. The reason is I saw many of my opponents use Arachne Weaver and its super ally healing ability will leave me baffled when I will lose a match which I thought I was guaranteed to win. Arachnes special Corrupted Healing ability is a total game changer specially for matches when you can place big tanks high base health count.
What Next?
Now I plan to start using Arachne much more when the Death element will allowed (yes, my Death summoners are not dead yet). I think some of the Epic cards in the soul bound rewards are as good as Legendary, specially Halfling Refugee that packs a major punch for just 1 Mana count and Shock Trooper delivering 4 magic account while just costing 4 mana.
With Arachne joining my army I feel really powerful. It’s Go Time!!
