In my recent posts you would have noticed that as bulk of my portfolio is made of Untamed and Chaos collections I had to think hard how to rebuild my portfolio as Chaos was now pushed out of Modern. This is going to be more complex than how I did it earlier as I never picked up too many Rebellion cards as I could maintain my win rate by just using Chaos in Modern format. Now when I filter for Modern in my card portfolio I see that I hardly have anything. Considering that I have limited liquidity available at the moment I will have to go slow with ramping up my deck.
**Step 1: Opening some Arcana Packs!! **
I have opened 8 Arcana packs till now. I did get a couple of gold foils but I did not get any Epic or Legendary cards. The amount I invested in buying the packs was much more than the current value of the cards as majority are common. I always knew that opening packs is not economical for small players and it is always better to pick up the specific cards you want directly from the market. Knowing that I still knew I had to pick up some cards for the culture and for the thrill of gambling with luck. Now I don’t plan to buy any more cards and will observe which Arcana cards are more useful when my opponents kick my behind and then buy them slowly.
**Step 2: Get the Summoners, Level them up!! **
The golden rule of Splinterlands that I have been following for 6 years with each new collection is that once I am done with the dopamine hit of opening packs I start picking up summoners for all elements and levelling up the ones I like. This time with Arcana it is going to be very challenging for me as the summoners are quite expensive. The good thing is I had a few summoners with some level ups from Rebellion set. My weak point was Dragon summoner as I always used the Chaos Dragon summoner earlier and never bought a Rebellion Dragon summoner. I decided to pick up a Arcana Dragon summoner, Kavor Skarn so it will be used for next collection launch as well. It is expensive so I will have to wait to level it up.
Step 3: Level Up Epic and Legendary Reward Cards!!
As I was playing regularly across the season earlier I collected a good amount of Glint and got many Epic and Legendary cards from the soul bound rewards. They are quite strong and in my opinion more useful than the Epic cards now we have in Arcana. I will continue to level up my Epic cards so they give me some fighting power till I am able to buy more Arcana cards.
What to do with my Untamed and Chaos Collections?? Now that I know how I need to build my Arcana portfolio one thought that came to my mind was if you should sell off my Untamed and Chaos sets and use the money to buy Arcana. After some careful thinking I have decided to not sell it as right now Chaos valuations are very low so there is no sense in throwing away such good cards so cheaply. Also Untamed cards are still very useful as the Legendaries have much more production power compared to new sets so are better to use on land. In hindsight I think the best decision I did was not to sell my Untamed gold foils earlier as now I can clearly see how valuable they are in Land. I think with this logic it is better to keep good cards from old collections even if they can’t be used in Modern. I will make a follow up post on this topic again once I have a decent deck ready in Arcana.
