"Anytime" Tournament Multiple Rounds
Development for the multiple rounds option for "anytime" tournaments has been completed and is currently being tested on our QA environment. @cryptomancer will likely be running some test tournaments there and inviting some Monster Mavericks that want to help test it out!
To start, the "anytime" tournaments can only have a maximum of two rounds so they don't go on for too long, but we may consider allowing more rounds in the future if that's something that players want.
The tournament creator can choose whether or not the tournament will have a second round, and also the percentage of players that will make it into the second round. If a tournament has 200 players entered and the creator set it so that 10% of players move on to the next round, then after the first round ends, the top 20 players in the rankings will be split into groups again based on the maximum group size set for the tournament, and will compete like normal for the best record.
This should allow the top players in tournaments to have the chance to battle against each other to really see who is the best of the best, and significantly reduce the amount of ties for the top prize spots.
Additionally, there is a new option for the tournament creator to choose the amount of time players have to select their teams for the tournament battles, which is something that has been requested by a number of players. We look forward to experimenting with that to see what players like the best!
We are planning to put these changes live on Wednesday, July 15th, around 12:00 ET (after the anytime tournaments from the previous day have ended) barring any significant issues or changes that come up during testing. We will then start to enable the multi-round option for Splinterlands sponsored tournaments created after the feature is released.
As always, we continue to welcome player feedback on how the tournaments and any other parts of the game can be improved!
Mobile App Update
We also wanted to take this opportunity to provide a quick update on the progress of our mobile application. We have unfortunately not had as much time as we would have liked to devote to this over the past couple of months, but we're excited to report that we have recently hired @melonman0 as our newest full time developer whose primary responsibility is overseeing the mobile app development, including:
- Fixing bugs
- Implementing missing features and new updates
- Building native versions to submit to the iOS and Android app stores
@melonman0 has been doing part time work for Splinterlands since nearly the beginning, and most notably he was responsible for building out the entire UI for the battles in the game on desktop browsers. We're very excited to have him on board full time and focusing on the mobile application, and we hope you can help us in welcoming him to the team!
AMA
Finally, we are planning another AMA on the Splinterlands Discord Server tomorrow, Friday, July 10th, at 3 PM ET. Both @aggroed and @yabapmatt plan to be there and we will do our best to answer all of the questions we can over the course of an hour or so. We hope to see you there, but, if not, the session will be recorded and posted for anyone who couldn't make it.
Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!
