Hi, this is my first blog entry. Am a fairly new Splinterlands player, playing for about a month. I love playing games and mostly spend my free time playing various games. In the series of blog posts (I hope it turns out to be), I hope to convey my stories, thoughts and opinion and the "quest" I am taking as I learn and have fun playing Splinterlands.
Recollections From Gacha Land
The Cycle
Over the years CCG Games and Mobile Games have been a part of my life. Ranging from digital card games, gacha and character collection RPG’s, I usually end up trying them out. I'd like to classify myself as a "dolphin" in those games. As in most cases, I usually end up abandoning those games either because of paywalls, stale meta and lack of updates. Jumping from one game to another is not a new thing to me. Then along the series of jumps, it only was a matter of time before…....came in Splinterlands.
The Mind Set
Coming over to Splinterlands and immediately purchasing the Spell Book, I was expecting to see loads of gifts and rewards just for signing in. Never did I expect that I was in for a rude awakening, there was nothing to be claimed!
Feeling disappointed, I then proceeded to play the tutorial hoping that a bunch of rewards would be unlocked upon completing it. I was then promoted to Novice level with still none of those “easy” rewards. I can’t recall if it was at this point that I got my first Daily Quest that was a Fire Quest. I remembered struggling and studying this different style of card gameplay presented to me, since I am normally used to playing traditional card games with a library, a playing field and cards on hand.
After managing to secure my first set of quests, I received my reward (a chest). A bit disappointed that I only got 1, I was thinking Finally!!!!
Lo and behold I got a solitary potion. Underwhelmed with what I got I started to question myself, “Is this the right game for me?”. (Yes I was expecting to get a good card).
After coming to terms that people are actually playing this game and the mere fact that it has been around for a couple of years, it should really mean something (that I am not seeing). I conducted a more thorough research on the game, its concepts and the developers. This is where I learned more about Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) and Splintershards (SPS) among other things.
I'll Get What I Give
From doing my own research, I was really surprised by the treasure trove of information presented to me. I was overwhelmed by how much I needed to learn (I am still to this very day) about the game and the resources I have to manage. Along with the gameplay itself, the changing rulesets and strategies, saying that there are a lot of things to do and have fun is an understatement.
Wow! I was looking at it from the wrong perspective. This is not an instant gratification game wherein you immediately receive your cards and be bored with it after a few months. I will be in it for the long haul and will be playing a long game is what I said to myself. After all, I have spent quite a lot (both time and money) on games wherein no returns were made and were designed to make me spend more without hesitation.
(Hopefully) To be continued….

Lately I’m getting to know more about the community and I can’t stress and emphasize enough the importance of having you guys around to make this game an awesome experience worth getting into. As the adage goes, “You’re The Best!!!”.
