Abilities unlocked at Silver (Commons & Rares)
Preparing my deck
I have been playing Splinterlands for about 4 months by now. But, it’s only recently that I have been thinking more seriously about (maybe) leveling up a few of my monsters. I’ve reached a point in my journey where this move might start to make sense. Playing on a somewhat limited budget, I constantly have to make choices. This chart will hopefully help players to choose which monsters to level up in priority.
With the prices of cards way down compared to the time I joined the game, my ongoing play is to grab cheap Chaos Legion’s Common and Rare cards in order to prepare my deck for the upper leagues; even though I don’t have the resources to level up my summoners yet. Knowing that less than 25% of the packs from this newest edition have been opened, this might either signal further price drops or an extended period of low prices.
As I still have a long way to go, having more time to build up my deck is good news. Moreover, buying these cards on an almost daily basis gives me a sense of progression with the few DECs I am earning every day. I used to play with a mostly level 1 deck and what I’ve noticed from my past experiences is that abilities can often trump stats.
With this observation in mind, I decided that I would give the priority to monsters that could gain new abilities once leveled up.
Abilities over Stats
It’s not a perfect science because, for instance, a monster with self-heal that jumps from 8 to 9 health points is a big deal as it can heal for 3 HP instead of 2 HP each turn. There are cases where stats are very important, but as I've said, I have to make choices and start somewhere. If you have any other suggestions, I would love to hear from you.
My (mostly) Level 1 deck carried me further than I would have expected by allowing me to compete between Silver III and Gold II the last few seasons. This was only possible because my focus was mainly on buying cheap cards with abilities available starting from level 1. Therefore, I thought it would make sense to keep the same mindset as I progress in this game.
For more experienced players (Gold, Diamond, Champion)
One more thing, if you're competing above Silver, you might find the two tables below useful.
Commons
Rares
I hope you've all found this post helpful in some ways.
