The Life Splinter
When I was looking for a Splinter to level up first, several factors persuaded me to start with Life. The main reason was obviously General Sloan being the cheapest Summoner on the market. Other reasons were the increase in Mana Cap, the number of monsters getting an additional ability with a Level 3 Sloan, and the opportunity to finally count on Level 2 Legendaries.
Uriel The Purifier
During my screening process, one card stood out, Uriel The Purifier. Getting it to Level 2 allowed me to unlock Heal, which made it instantly much more resilient as a tank. Besides its high HP, the Flying ability also comes in handy. It can be used in Earthquake battles, but maybe more importantly being able to dodge an attack or two buys it time to heal more between the rounds it can’t attack.
Because, yes, the Recharge ability is a double edge sword. While it multiplies by 3 the original attack, it can also only be triggered once every other turn. Therefore, resiliency is truly key for Uriel The Purifier to shine. To be honest, I really discovered the full potential of this card only after watching the Game Mechanics Videos (full of insights) posted on Youtube by Hawks21.
Explosive Weaponry
In one of his videos, he described how Uriel The Purifier could be extremely effective within the Blast ruleset. The insane amount of damage it inflicts to the main tank (9 damage) can sometimes take down the off-tank in one single hit (5 damage). Thus, even though the opposite tank might be very tough to get through, the backline monsters still fall one by one behind it.
Example No.1
Rulesets: Explosive Weaponry + Up Close & Personal
Mana Cap: 17
In this battle, even though Chaos Knight could absorb the heavy amount of Melee damage thanks to its Shield, it wasn’t the case with Cave Slug and Celestial Harpy behind it.

Example No. 2
Rulesets: Earthquake + Explosive Weaponry
Mana Cap: 17
In this example, Uriel The Purifier basically single-handled the full battle.
To begin with, being a Flying character, it wasn’t affected by Earthquake at all. Then, Heal, and a bit of luck, allowed it to take the hits without falling. Finally, its ability to eliminate two monsters with one single hit proved to be tremendously advantageous.

Example No. 3
Rulesets: Explosive Weaponry + Spreading Fury
Mana Cap: 17
In this last instance, I thought I had lost after the first two rounds. By Round 2, half of my lineup was already out. In fact, according to Splintertools.io, I should have lost (around a 20% Win-Rate).
However, once Enraged, Uriel can become unstoppable as it hits for 15 damage! Even the Shield of Mycelic Infantry couldn’t do much to offset it.
