Is Gold the new Silver?
In the last Town Hall where @yabapmatt appeared (the 23rd of March, 2022) came a pretty nice disclosure regarding the incoming Modern Format. More than simply splitting the game between older and newer editions, he revealed that the Collection Power requirements for each league in this new format will most probably be cut by half, essentially to mirror the burn value of the Chaos Legion’s cards, which is also half of the previous edition. We should note that this burn value decrease was implemented to help preserve the value of older cards.
Personally, my current Collection Power ensures me a spot in Silver III, even though, I do spend most of my time playing in Silver I and above thanks to a few rentals. This change in terms of CP requirements would allow me to skip Silver II, and jump from Silver III directly to Silver I, which will bring me much closer to the Gold leagues. Similarly to what happened to Silver after Bronze got nerfed, I feel like Gold will soon be the new Silver as more and more players, like me, will be able to reach those leagues without too much trouble.
Nowadays, the majority of players see their progress slow down mainly because of a lack of Collection Power (CP), not a lack of wins (MMR). Indeed, the Chaos Legion’s set contains very powerful monsters more than able to challenge older cards. Having played this Wild Format for about three months now, we’ve noticed that new players were in fact able to be competitive. The real bottleneck being the CP, this adjustment in terms of its requirements is, to me, the real benefit that will come with the launch of the Modern Format.
Shooting for 35k CP before the launch of Modern Format
Even though I don’t own the leveled-up summoners to get the most out of my monsters in Gold leagues, I keep on preparing my deck for this next level. Finding the right balance between building a playable deck and maximizing my Collection Power is often a delicate exercise. While not so long ago, I was glad to cross the 15k CP, my next target today is 35k, which would ensure me a spot in Silver I without having to rely on any rentals. Below are the steps I recently took to get closer to this objective.
My focus, not surprisingly, was on the current in-print rewards as those cards are still the cheapest available on the market. However, I’ve tried not to max out those cards randomly even if this option was very tempting due to their CP per Dollar-cost ratio. What I tried to do was to unlock key abilities for each of these reward cards, either for Silver or Gold. Furthermore, with 10 more new rewards cards coming soon to the game, we don’t know exactly how this update will affect the print distribution of the current rewards. In the case it follows the same pattern as the Legendary airdrop cards, which are added to the Chaos Legion set without increasing the odds of getting a Legendary, the current in-print rewards might be slightly harder to get in the future.
