Mourinho had been manager since May 2016 winning the League Cup and Europa Titles, however after bringing in 11 players at a cost of almost £400m the club have seen no
improvement to the playing style, results and no developement of the younger players.
Man Utd are looking to appoint a caretaker boss untill the end of the season, someone from outside the club and not Arsene Wenger.
So who is in the running? well the names of Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone and Mauricio Pochettino are all popular choices. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the former Man Utd striker
and manager of Molde in Norway seems to be a favourite at present.
Mourinho is still one of management's greats after winning the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, and winning silver ware when in charge of Chelsea, Real Madrid and United.
But are those glory days as one of the game's best managers now over? Is he still the "special one"?
One report states that "games in opposition to Guardiola and Klopp that are fresh in the memory intensify the image Mourinho, once the trailblazer, is light years behind the modernisers".
Liverpool fans will take great joy at being the last team to beat Man Utd and possibly cause his sacking!
