What's up basketball fans! I am here again @dwin0603 to give you another exciting basketball discussion for another episode of NBA Talk, and today we will talk about how can Malcolm Brogdon impact the Indiana Pacers. Let's get started!
The Indiana Pacers had a quiet offseason this year even though they have a lot of cap space to sign big-time free agents. But, despite not being aggressive this summer, they still managed to add up some key players getting a better roster ahead of the next season. A surprise retirement from Darren Collison left the Indiana Pacers searching for a starting point guard to pair with their superstar Victor Oladipo. Collison retired from playing in the NBA to fulfill his duties in his religion as a Jehovah's Witness. He played 10 years in the NBA and he's a good point guard throughout his career. He's even an all-star caliber guard at some point in his career. I believe he's one of the most underrated guards in the league. He averaged 12.5 points and 5 assists in his 10-year career.
Collison is expected to sign a good amount of contract during this summer as he became an unrestricted free agent. But he shocked the basketball world as he retires. As Collison retires, the Indiana Pacers point guard position became weak. Their dept is not enough. Corey Joseph and Aaron Holiday were the only left guards in their roster. Joseph is good but he's not as good as a starting guard. Aaron Holiday has potential but he's too young to be a starter. He lacks experience.
The Pacers needed to fill the void Collison left. And as they search for a starting guard, they found Malcolm Brogdon from the Milwaukee Bucks. They initially pursuing Ricky Rubio but after they saw indications that the former Utah Jazz guard will sign with the Phoenix Suns, they put their attention to Malcolm Brogdon. It was a sign-and-trade deal worth $85 million that sent Brogdon to the Pacers in exchange for a first-round pick and two second-rounders.
Adding the 2017 Rookie of the Year brings more youth to this young Pacers team. Brogdon is a major upgrade at the point guard position for the Pacers as he averaged 15.6 points per game and 4.5 rebounds shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from the three-point line for the Milwaukee Bucks. Brogdon had elite handles that make him a great primary ball-handler for the Pacers. He's also deadly attacking the rim and it can help Victor Oladipo and Myles Turner to have more space.
The Pacers did a great job hear signing Brogdon. He's a great playmaker. Well-fitted at the point guard position. Let's see how can Malcolm Brogdon impact the Indiana Pacers.
