I'm taking a break from programming to reminisce on some past experiences. This is my first year back in DC from LA and really miss the great weather on the west coast. I dug up an old picture of the Jacarandas trees that I loved so much out there. Streets were lined with these trees. The purple flowers were amazing. The only downfall with these trees is that they left a horrible sap on the ground. Cherry trees are the big thing in DC. These trees are everywhere. When they bloom (mid-March) it is fascinating but overall they are a pretty dirty tree. Looking at them this time of year is painful. They seem to be susceptible to disease and always loaded with dead branches. They are the first to lose their leaves in the fall and have no real color compared the the nice oaks, maples, etc. I will post pictures of the cherries when they bloom. It is 2 weeks of joy.
