Community Proposal #11
There is an ongoing attempt to reform tournaments and give the DAO the opportunity to clearly apportion rewards, outline formats and prize structures, as well as to establish a consensus for entry guidelines. This process will take time and require many great minds from our community to work together and find solutions.
A suggestion to pause all tournaments for 2 months and then double rewards for 2 months while building consensus was not well received and I subsequently had several messages and requests to make a proposal to halt Alpha tournaments. After taking a poll to see how much support this idea had in the Discord community, it's clear we need a stake-weighted vote.
If this proposal passes, all Alpha tournaments will be halted until we can build a passing proposal on how to apportion Tournament rewards. Here is the current breakdown of rewards distribution that has led us to this point:
Many view the Alpha tournaments have become more problematic since Land 1.5 was released. There are now less participants and a large portion of Tournament inflation is allocated to these tournaments which only a handful of people qualify to join. Overall we need a comprehensive rework of Tournaments. This proposal aims to be a form of mitigation while that rework continues to be drafted.
As far as motivation to reach a consensus on how to rework Tournaments, halting Alpha tournaments along with the amount of rewards that are not being distributed as they should be and the existence of "refund tier" prizes means that somewhere between 30-40% of the rewards that should be allocated to tournaments would be left unapportioned until we pass a vote.
My hope is that whether this proposal passes or not, we can start making progress on building consensus for a comprehensive tournament reform proposal to make sure that we're accurately awarding prizes as per the whitepaper's indications. Thanks for your time and consideration.
For posterity I'm attaching the results of the poll:
