The beta edition of the Splinterlands cards is almost sold out! Only 20% remaining. There is a lot of talk what will happened after they are sold out. Some say there will be a certain period without any new cards printed out and then the new edition will be released.
The thing is Splinterlands/Steemmonsters already had a similar transition like this. From Alpha to Beta edition. Here I will take a look what happened then and based on that make some prediction for the next edition.
Alpha to Beta Transition
Here what happened when the Beta edition cards was introduced:
- All the exciting Alpha cards got Beta version
- New summoners introduced (legendary and epic)
- Neutral monsters introduced
- Triple quantity
The Alpha edition of cards didn’t had neutral monsters. With the beta edition, neutral monsters were introduced.
Furthermore, new summoners were introduced. The Alpha edition only had the rare summoners and Selenia Sky as a legendary dragon summoner. In the Beta edition we got the Epic and Legendary summoners for each element.
On the quantity side I believe the Alpha edition had 300k packs and the Beta edition has 900k packs. So this is an triple increase in the quantity.
The New Cards Edition (Standard?)
Based on the transition from Alpha to Beta edition I’m speculating the following:
- All the Beta cards will have a new standard version
- New common summoners will be introduced for each element
- All the neutral monsters will get a standard version
- Triple Quantity
So yes. More or less a similar transition as from Alpha to Beta.
All the exciting cards, including the neutrals will get a new standard version.
The key thing here is the speculation on new common summoners for each element. I’m guessing this because if you take a closer look you will see that there are no common summers at the moment, except for the promo dragon magic summoner.
All the cards have common, rare, epic and legendary rarity. It is logical for the summoners to have all the rarity types as well. I’m quite sure that new common summoners will be introduced. Summoners are key to the game. No summoner and you can’t play. Also, the price of them is keep going up and for a lot of users they are the main obstacle to climb the leagues. Upgrading them is costly. With common summoners introduced that will be cheaper a lot of players can try their luck in the higher league.
What ability will these summoners had is a different question? Will they have any abilities/buffs at all?
On the quantity side I’m also guessing that It will triple or more. So at least 2,7 million packs for the next edition.
Except for the very likely introduction of new summoners there may be some other new cards introduced, but I doubt it.
New edition like this will be great and it will not decrease the value of the current cards. To spice things up for the Beta edition they may introduce bonus DEC earned, similar as for the Alpha edition now. Lets say 2%. Tournaments for the Beta cards only as well.
Any thoughts?
All the best
