Introduction
The Chaos Legion set came with several titans with more than 9 MP to summon. Last week, for example, I presented a battle where the Grum Fireblade gave my opponent trouble (Greengineer, 2022-a). But the Chaos Legion set itself also brought a way to combat these cards, adding the Giant Killer skill to the game.
Legionnaire Alvar is a legendary and neutral card that has this ability among others, as shown below:
- Void Armor: The magic damage taken by this card reduces its shield before its HP.
- Giant Killer: When attacking cards with 10 or more MP consumption, the damage is doubled.
- Demoralize: Reduces all enemy units' melee attack by 01.
- Deathblow: If there is only one enemy on the battlefield, it will take double damage.
Analyzing its abilities it is clear that this card was designed to combat the Kron + Llama combo. However, it shines in other types of battles like the one I will present today, where there was a clash between Grum Fireblade and Legionnaire Alvar. Even Alvar receiving the attack of 02 monsters, he managed to hold the enemy tank and prevent it from growing in the match.
The strategy before the battle
The match had the Up Close & Personal and Armored Up rules active, 40 MP for summoning, and had only Life and Dragon Splinters disabled. Looking at my opponent's history, I noticed that he used at least one card with 10 or more MP in his compositions, so it would be interesting for me to have a monster with the Giant Killer skill in my front line. As the Life Splinter was disabled, I couldn't use the Chaos Knight, so I had to look for an alternative that could withstand enemy attacks and fight back with the Giant Killer. For this mission I chose the Legionnaire Alvar, putting him as a tank and I chose the Water Splinter to accompany him, because I could use the Lir Deepswimmer for +02 shield for my allies and Blind for my opponents. Here it is worth noting that I did not have Mylor Crowling available, which would be an obvious choice with Up Close & Personal active as shown in Greengineer (2022-b).
To accompany Alvar I put the Demented Shark in third position with Inspire, Deeplurker in fourth position with Opportunity, Disintegrator in fifth position with Demoralize and Spineback Turtle in last position with Thorns. To use the remaining 1 MP I put Hardy Stonefish in second position.
Once assembled, the team was hoping for a monster with 10 or more MP needed to summon in the first position and luckily for me, Grum Fireblade came.
The battle
My opponent came with Grum as a tank, with Fineas Rage in second position with Reach, with the Sneak trio composed of Tenyii Striker, Sand Worm and Uraeus in third, fourth and fifth positions. To complete the last slot put the Scorch Fiend in the last position.
He concentrated attacks in the rear but also had a lot of damage in the front line. Alvar would have to hold Grum so he doesn't grow in the match with his Bloodlust ability. My Spineback Turtle wouldn't be enough to eliminate my opponent's Sneak trio, so Deeplurker would be instrumental in eliminating the enemy's rear before they eliminate mine.
After a first round with no kills, in the second round my opponent's Scorch Fiend was killed by my Deeplurker. My Spineback Turtle was also eliminated, but it left my opponent's Sneak trio without their shield.
In the third round Grum was eliminated. My Disintegrator lost all of its shield to the enemy Sneak trio.
In the fourth round my enemy's Sand Worm was killed by my Deeplurker. My Alvar went down with Fineas Rage's attack.
In the fifth round I lost my Disintegrator and Uraeus went down next.
In the sixth round, my opponent's Tenyii Striker left the match.
In the seventh round my Hardy Stonefish died and in the eighth round the last enemy was killed, guaranteeing me the victory.
If my opponent had used Flame Monkey with the Repair skill, he could have avoided losing Grum and won the game. If I had used Mylor Crowling the match would have ended quickly, as my opponent focused on attacking with all positions and invested little in debuff or buff.

Introdução
O set Chaos Legion trouxe diversos titãs com mais de 9 de MP para invocação. Na semana passada mesmo apresentei uma batalha onde o Grum Fireblade deu trabalho para meu oponente (Greengineer, 2022-a). Mas o próprio set Chaos Legion também trouxe uma forma de combater estas cartas, adicionando a habilidade Giant Killer ao jogo.
O Legionnaire Alvar é uma carta lendária e neutra que possui esta habilidade entre outras, como mostrado a seguir:
- Void Armor: O dano mágico recebido por esta carta reduz teu escudo antes de teu HP.
- Giant Killer: Ao atacar cartas com consumo de 10 ou mais de MP o dano é dobrado.
- Demoralize: Reduz 01 do ataque melee de todas as unidades inimigas.
- Deathblow: Se houver apenas um inimigo no campo de batalha ele receberá o dano em dobro.
Analisando suas habilidades fica claro que esta carta foi desenhada para combater o combo Kron + Llama. Porém ela brilha em outros tipos de batalhas como a que apresentarei hoje, onde houve um embate entre o Grum Fireblade e o Legionnaire Alvar. Mesmo o Alvar recebendo o ataque de 02 monstros ele conseguiu segurar o tanque inimigo e impedir que ele crescesse na partida.
A estratégia antes da batalha
A partida tinha as regras Up Close & Personal e Armored Up ativas, 40 de MP para invocação e tinha apenas os Splinters da Vida e do Dragão desabilitados. Observando o histórico de meu oponente percebi que ele utilizava ao menos uma carta com 10 ou mais de MP nas suas composições, logo seria interessante eu ter um monstro com a habilidade Giant Killer na minha linha de frente. Como o Splinter da Vida estava desabilitado fiquei sem poder utilizar o Chaos Knight, logo tinha que buscar uma alternativa que suportasse os ataques inimigos e revidasse com o Giant Killer. Para esta missão escolhi o Legionnaire Alvar, colocando-o como tanque e escolhi o Splinter da Água para acompanhá-lo, pois poderia utilizar o Lir Deepswimmer para +02 de escudo para meu aliados e Blind para meus oponentes. Aqui vale destacar que eu não tinha o Mylor Crowling à disposição, que seria uma escolha óbvia com Up Close & Personal ativo como mostrado em Greengineer (2022-b).
Para acompanhar o Alvar coloquei o Demented Shark na terceira posição com Inspire, o Deeplurker na quarta posição com Opportunity, o Disintegrator na quinta posição com Demoralize e o Spineback Turtle na última posição com Thorns. Para utilizar o 1 de MP restante coloquei o Hardy Stonefish na segunda posição.
Uma vez montado o time era torcer para vir um monstro com 10 ou mais de MP necessário para invocação na primeira posição e para minha sorte veio o Grum Fireblade.
A batalha
Meu oponente veio com o Grum como tanque, com o Fineas Rage na segunda posição com Reach, com o trio Sneak composto por Tenyii Striker, Sand Worm e Uraeus nas terceira, quarta e quinta posições. Para completar o último slot colocou o Scorch Fiend na última posição.
Meu oponente concentrava ataques na retaguarda mas também possuía muito dano na linha de frente. O Alvar teria que segurar o Grum para que ele não crescesse na partida com sua habilidade Bloodlust. Meu Spineback Turtle não seria suficiente para eliminar o trio Sneak de meu oponente, logo o Deeplurker seria fundamental na eliminação da retaguarda inimiga antes que a mesma eliminasse a minha.
Depois de um primeiro round sem abates, no segundo round o Scorch Fiend de meu oponente foi abatido pelo meu Deeplurker. Meu Spineback Turtle também foi eliminado, mas deixou o trio Sneak de meu oponente sem seu escudo.
No terceiro round o Grum foi eliminado. Meu Disintegrator perdeu todo o seu escudo para o trio Sneak inimigo.
No quarto round o Sand Worm do meu inimigo foi morto por meu Deeplurker. Meu Alvar caiu com o ataque do Fineas Rage.
No quinto round eu perdi meu Disintegrator e o Uraeus caiu em seguida.
No sexto round o Tenyii Striker de meu oponente saiu da partida.
No sétimo round meu Hardy Stonefish morreu e no oitavo round o último inimigo foi abatido, me garantindo a vitória.
Se meu oponente tivesse utilizado o Flame Monkey com a habilidade Repair poderia ter evitado a perda do Grum e ter vencido o jogo. Se eu tivesse utilizado o Mylor Crowling a partida teria acabado de forma rápida, pois meu oponente focou em atacar com todas as posições e investiu pouco em debuff ou buff.
