The W-owl Factor
It started with a suggestion that our community must have a mascot an icon, just like how Spiderman must have a spider on his chest, Superman must have an 'S' and the All Blacks with their fern. With that in mind, @cartoonistpandan was tasked with this job. He did not disappoint. He came up with an ingenious by creating a logo that aptly describe the life of an artists like those who are resident in this community. He came up with an Owl.
The owl is a depiction of the platform in which we operate. The steem blockchain and since most of us uses steemit as our platform into the steem blockchain the initial idea was based on the shape the steemit logo. Since the owl feeds on steem and is spurred by the steem currency we have to brand the owl with a steem logo right at its stomach. Although traditionally branding is always done at the chest for superheroes.
Why Owl
If there is one common characteristic that we all share in the community, we find inspiration after the sun sets. The starry sky and the moonlit ambience is the catalyst to our creativity. So most of the work is done at night. The real reason for this is actually more relatable. This is the time when our phone doesn't ring, the babies are fast asleep and the nagging wife is too tired after a hard day toiling in the kitchen. So, in short, we are the night creatures. If the gnomes and fairies come out to play, this is also the time when cartoonists will dance their wacom pens to the tune of 'Blue Danube'.
What Next
The launch of an icon is always a major milestone. So to commemorate this major milestone we are inviting the entire steemit community to participate in our first ever community sponsored contest titled :
The W-owl Factor
In this contest, the theme is 'Fantasy'. You are free to use whatever art style that you are most familiar with whether it is sketching, charcoal art, stencilling, doodling and the list goes on and on. Do not be limited by the genre. There will be 3 judges that will judge the contest. The resident judge is none other than the Founder of #steem-cartoon, @sireh and the two other judges shall be announced after the contest is closed.
Conditions to be fulfilled:-
- Each participant is entitled to one entry
- The participant must upvote and resteem this post
- The participant must incorporate the steem-cartoon LOGO in the artwork
- There must be at least be 3 progressive steps that is documented in the blog and can be presented as an image or a GIF
- The link to the post must be included contained in the comment section below and if possible kindly include the final image of the completed artwork
- The closing date of this contest is the date of the payout. Any entry made after the payout shall not be considered by the judges
- steem-cartoon must be your first tag
The prizes shall be as follows :
8 SBD to the winner
5 SBD to the first runner up
3 SBD to the second runner up
The judges' decision is final. If this post managed to earn more than $50 in upvotes, the prizes will be increased at the organiser's discretion.
Community of Engagement
We wish to create a community that has its values rested on active positive engagement. This community shall not undermine any artist's work. Every piece of art to us has its value and like we all believe 'Beauty Lies in the Eyes of the Beholder'.
We encourage fellow artists to exchange ideas and to contribute in by participation in the community effort that we shall be launching from time to time. The two projects that are lined up for this community as unveiled earlier shall be an 'Open Workshop for Cartoonist on Steemit' that shall be held in the Malaysia's National Museum this month and our second project shall be to create a sustainable community of support especially for new artists in Steemit by our discord channel.
Creation of a Delegation Account
The effort has been put on track to create a delegation account that shall be used for the benefit of its members on steem-cartoon. Collection made from any public announcements or through this delegation account shall be utilised to purchase steem power delegation for purposes of upvotes.
This community is a fairly young one. There is still plenty of room for growth. We take this opportunity to again thank the people that have been supporting our effort from our very inception and also people who came to know of our effort and started supporting us.
