It's gonna take a big name to create their own coin for others to start using it.
It's kinda crazy to imagine for us Steemians how easy it would be to create your own coin here, while I understand that SMT's isn't there yet and we can only imagine. It's just awesome to know all the things people could do with their coin on Steem and how proof-of-brain will be the superior system of distributing currencies to users.
Unfortunately crypto still has somewhat of a "bad rep", especially to people who don't fully understand it nor have time to do so even if they wanted to. With these lawsuits going around of "promoters" having promoted a crypto project they didn't know what it exactly was for that "quick money". People should be careful with their choices, and although these may set back the majority from ever diving in, the odds of someone doing it at some point and causing a chain reaction is growing every day.
In a way all centralized competitors arising are just going to help people hear about our cryptocurrency we use here and how it works. Even if theirs can do 10x more things 10x better short term, the people will in the end choose an open internet before a closed on. That is the freedom Steem brings but unfortunately just like through the history of the internet there will be percentage of bad actors, it's only normal. The comfortable feeling behind your screen giving you freedom to be a troll for instance is not something that will go away but neither will it in centralized system. I know streamers who wish really hard their viewers would not do certain things they do, but someone who wants to troll will always find a way to do so. Here the stakes will be against them, like literally. Without having to rely on a crypto that's never really yours or the value relies on Facebook's stock price for instance, or being afraid the company could shut down your account instantly because of some rules or some people that don't want your activity to exist. You would lose everything, unless that other competing platform does not ban people because of what their advertisers think because they may not even rely on ad revenue. Even if some dapps shared the same rules from Facebook, your account, followers, value and past work will not go away if you decide to change.
I personally can't wait to welcome the rest of the world onto the new internet, by then hopefully most of us will be using a whole lot of new dapps and maybe even dapps that can't exist on other blockchains either.
