Hey Everyone! This is the tenth and final post in the Crushing It! Book Club Series! This is one of my favorite books and I hope you all enjoyed these posts. This final post will be a sum-up of the top 5 takeaways from Crushing It! The next book that I'm reading/reviewing will be announced tomorrow!
(1) We Live in A World of Opportunity
The world we live in is filled with opportunities, you just have to be willing to reach out and grab them. GaryVee mentions this phrase constantly throughout his vlogs, posts, books, etc… He’s referring to the state of the market - the fact that everyone has a shot in this crazy world that we live in. The fact that any plumber can make millions by just talking about what he/she knows and loves.
I completely agree with Gary on this and I think that if you’re on Steem, you believe in this too. Anyone has a shot in this world. Anyone can make posts about what they know and love, anyone can build a personal brand around the thing they love in this world and everyone has the chance to go to the moon. 🚀 Do what you love and do the right thing, and you too can have a shot in this digital world of influencers and celebrities.
(2) How to Identify Your Intent:
Intent is essential when it comes to being an entrepreneur or pursuing anything in life. If you don't know where you want to go, then how do you expect to get there? I really resonated with Gary's question of how to identify your intent and I think a lot of you will benefit from actually writing this down somewhere.
To identify your intent (a.k.a. your why) for being an entrepreneur, Gary begs the question:
"Why do you want to be an entrepreneur?
To share your knowledge?
To help people?
To build something that leaves a legacy?
To make a good income to give yourself and your family financial security and breathing room?
To have fun with a creative outlet?
To create community?"
So which is it for you? For me it's all of them: if you read my bio on Steem, you can actually find these elements within it and my bio hasn't changed much since I started posting. To save you a few clicks:
"Cultivating a community of curiosity and spreading educational awareness to all parts of the world. Education + knowledge = an abundant future" - (my bio)
Please take the time to write down your intent for whatever it is that you're pursuing in life. Write down where you want to go, what you imagine it will be like to achieve your goals, etc etc... I've made it a regular practice to not only write down my intent, but to also visualize what I intend to achieve and write about it as well. I think this really helps you figure out why you want to do thing and what you might be able to do right now to make those dreams a reality.
(3) Why Authenticity Matters!!
"Your intent will be reflected in your authenticity. You will be a thousand times more successful if you wake up eager to share and create something because you believe the world will enjoy it rather than because you have calculated that this is what you need to do to become an Instagram celebrity."
Being authentic is a lens through which your audience will view your intent. If you aren't authentic, then you have bad intent and your audience will absolutely figure that out. You should really enjoy what you do and love whatever it is that you're talking about. If you don't, then you're not being authentic with your audience and that creates a lose-lose situation for everyone.
(4) Document. Don't Create
Documenting versus creating is still my favorite thing that Gary has ever said. It has completely changed the way I look at life and it has changed the way I post on Steemit. Documenting rather than creating means that the content you put out is a "documentation" of the journey that you're living anyways. If you're a real estate agent, then you can document your deals by vlogging or blogging while you tour houses and have negotiations.
This is essential for anyone who posts here on Steemit... Focus on documenting your journey rather than trying to constantly create stuff out of thin air - documenting is so authentic and so raw and I really think that it's the future of how we consume media. Just look at how the viewership of youtube vloggers has dramatically grown over the past several years!
(5) Find Landgrab Opportunities and then Execute. Don't Dwell!
Always be looking for those opportunities that allow you to get in early and establish yourself. I look at Steem as one of these opportunities. A landgrab opportunity refers to a new/budding platform that has yet to reach the masses, but has the potential to hit the mainstream someday.
By going to said platform and learning how it all works and establishing yourself as an influencer, you can garner attention and influence over the platform before the masses have reached it. When the masses do eventually come to that platform, they'll find you and all the content you've made waiting for them and you'll soak up all those opportunities. Think of it as being similar to "planting your flag" and claiming stake to some of the "prime real estate" that is available only to the early adopters.
On Steemit, look to gain followers by posting more often and also invest in the Steem token that determines your influence over the platform. The more you can get now, the greater your influence will be when the masses start coming - and trust me, that day is coming soon!
