We've seen a resurgence of transaction volume on Ethereum and Bitcoin with this latest dip in cryptos to a sub $200B Market Cap for the first time in 9 months, since Nov 2017. We are currently sitting at $191B USD.
But both networks are behind 10's of thousands of transactions as of today and unable to handle just a fraction of the transactions EOS, Steem and BTS process everyday with super fast block times.

Both of them are walking dinosaurs and eventually the world will wake up to the fact POS will eventually beat out POW technology. POW is just too slow, expensive and cumbersome.
Speaking of Proof of Stake, even ETH is starting to look at moving to a POS model in the future. But this involves a lot of change and a significant reduction in mining rewards. There are a lot of vested interests in keeping the old model in place so only time will tell if they are successful in making this transition.
