So on Tron there's this smart contract thingy called Bankroll, that was basically trying to be a sustainable ponzi, but it looks like its shrinking now, anyway that's not really the point. The creator made a dice game similar to Magic Dice that instead of primarily paying him, actually feeds bankroll from it's profits.
Once made I'm not sure how much work a dice game like this takes to maintain, but I can't imagine much and I thought it was an interesting idea for the developer of this to share his profits with his users.
That got me thinking. Facebook makes billions on ads, but how much money does it actually take to run Facebook? I imagine only a fraction of what they make. What if there were a social network that made money via ad revenue, but shared that revenue with it's users. I think with blockchain and crypto this would be possible. Imagine if there was a dividend token on Steem, that took a portion of the ad revenue and distributed it to stakeholders via that token. Sort of like how the dividend tokens from all the casino games work, but maybe attached to a Steem frontend. I think this would be a huge incentive to use that platform.
I'm not sure how the distribution would work, that would take a bit of thought for how to make it not TOTALLY gameable. It's probably impossible to stop all abuse, but you wouldn't want it to be easy at least.
I can already see the marketing campaign.
"On monopolistic social networking sites, you, the user are creating billions of dollars a year in value. Your attention and your data are extremely valuable, but how much of this value is transferred to you? ZERO. Introducing Steembook, the social network that pays YOU, because you're worth it."
Haha, okay, let's build it. I've already done all the hard part, now one of you engineers just do the easy programming it all part.
Just a bit of brainstorming, what do you all think, would you be excited about this? How would you handle distribution, stake based? Activity based?(like Partiko points) Some other mechanism? Let me know your thoughts.
