I presented last week the idea of Regional Leaders to help promote Steem around the world.
In advance of any formal infrastructure being established I want to kickstart the program by putting out a call for anyone interested in becoming a Regional Leader.
Ultimately I would like to see this expand into a three tier structure of Local, Regional and Country Leaders for maximum impact and effectiveness.
Leader Activities
The role of a Leader would be to promote Steem on an ongoing basis at the appropriate local/regional/country level.
This would include activities such as...
- Organising Steem meetups / recruitment events, and liaising and assisting with events others are organising.
- Promoting Steem to local and regional press and media.
- Sharing information about Steem to local and regional social media.
- Representing Steem at events in the region such as community festivals and freshers fairs.
- Networking and keeping in touch with Steemians in the region who like to be involved in local activities.
Requirements
This program is still evolving but as a starting point I would suggest the basic requirements for anyone joining the project would be...
- to be regularly active on Steem (be it posting, curating, gaming) for at least 6 months
- to have a reputation of at least 50
- to have a good knowledge of how Steem operates
- to have time and resources to promote Steem in the local area or region
A working level of English will be required to communicate within the project.
Full public disclosure of identity will not be required on the blockchain but you will need to be willing to reveal the town/city/region you are representing as a Leader, and be willing to appear in photographs or videos.
Additionally an email address and postal address may be needed privately for communication and for sending promotional merchandise as that becomes available.
How to apply
If you are interested in becoming a Leader please make a post of 500 - 1000 words including the following...
- why you would like to become a Steem Leader
- what skills and experience you would be able to bring to the role
- a brief summary of your 'Steem career' to date - when you started, what you have achieved on the platform, what projects and communities you have been involved in
- one example of a promotional activity you would like to run in your local area to recruit people to Steem, and what resources you would need.
Also please indicate what country and region you are in, and ideally also your nearest main town or city.

Status & Rewards
This project is not officially backed or endorsed by Steemit Inc or any other formal Steem based organisation at this time.
At this stage it is purely a private project I am initiating to help push forward with the much needed marketing and promotion of Steem.
The role of a Steem Leader is voluntary and there is no payment offered.
In the first instance I will be voting on the application posts and subsequent activity posts with the @communityaction account. I have delegated 20,000 SP to that and will be increasing that as the project progresses.
In due course the plan will be to grow that account to reward Leaders on a a 'Proof of Activity' basis.
I also hope to build some funds to provide promotional merchandise and expenses for activities and events.
I am looking forward to seeing how big a network of Steem Leaders we can build around the world.
I hope those that have expressed interest in getting involved on the Steem Outreach posts last week will be willing to take the next step with an application post. I trust no one will be put off by this process but I feel it will be useful to ensure the transparency of the project for the wider Steem community.
