German Volkswagen presented the new, seventh generation Jetta at the Detroit Auto Show.
Since the beginning of production in 1980, about 17.5 million units have been sold worldwide, of which 3.2 million in the US, and the new generation should continue to conquer America.
The new Jetta got an interior decorated with mini-SUVs T-Roc, a new flat front mask and LED daytime running lights on the edge of the headlights.
The Jetta is also shorter than the previous generation with a 4.702mm with a longer wheelbase (2.69m), which should increase the cabin space.
It was built on the same MQB platform as VW Golf 7 and Tiguana, Škoda Kodiaq and Seat Arone, and a giant from Wulfsburg announced a wide range of turbocharged engines.
The basic version will have a 1.4-liter TSI turbocharger with 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm, paired with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox with front-wheel drive.
The automaker will also have a start / stop system that should increase vehicle efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
Customers will also have a choice between a standard and digitized control panel with a multimedia touch screen that will be in sizes up to a maximum of 10.2 inches as in the Golf.
BeatsAudio stereo system of 400W will also be offered. Also, a number of driving assistance systems are provided, such as the rear parking camera and front parking sensors, independent safety brakes, adaptive cruise control, dead-end sensors, warning belts for leaving the tape, and the like.
The boot capacity will be 510 liters. Later, a sports R line will be available, as well.
The new Jetta will be on sale from 2019, and VW will start booking from the end of the current year.
Price and technical details such as acceleration and consumption will be announced later.
