This totally changed my view of STEEM and I believe, by the time you are done with this, it will change your's also.
To start, I need to thank @rasamuel for sharing the video with me which I will share at the end of this post.
@ned and @heimindanger, the developer of D.tube, were on @blocktalk a few days ago. During the broadcast they covered a number of topics pertaining to this blockchain.
The only thing I can say is "WOW. If you thought I was uber bullish before, that is considered neutral compared to what I am after watching this video.
So what was stated that is so exciting?
100K Entrepreneurs:
One of the first things that caught my attention was @ned's goal for the next 5 years. His desire is to see 100,000 entrepreneurs running businesses on the steem blockchain. That is what he feels his job is at this point: to assist entrepreneurs to get started on this blockchain and create successful businesses.
That absolutely boggles my mind to think about. At present, we have a nice configuration of applications which are being worked on to improve. Some made terrific progress, others are a bit further behind. Nevertheless, we can see a handful of them (maybe 20 or so).
Can you imagine what this blockchain will be like when there are close to 100K?
If that seems like an insurmountable task, remember that the steem blockchain was designed to interface with websites. That is where the content/reward system comes into play. It is a way to monetize websites. How many of them are out there?
Another aspect to this is "hive" or "swarm" system. Something that I was not aware of is that there are many tools being created for entrepreneurs to use. Applications on this blockchain do not operate in a vacuum. Not only does the entire network benefit when an application starts gaining success but they also interact in a way that all data is shared among them. Hence what takes place with one app is made available to all other apps. Of course, being decentralized, each application can decide what to do with that information.
This system is being applied in the AI world. Many systems are being constructed so that when one part of it learns something, it is spread to every node. It is the same thing here. This makes the entire ecosystem grow faster since all information is open and shared.

Smart Media Tokens 2.0
I know, we are still waiting for the Smart Media Token protocol to appear. Yet this is not stopping @ned from thinking about the next generation for that protocol. Basically, he is envisioning a time when you can tie the economic system of an app with an identity system. What would this do? Well, how would you like to get paid to just watch a video or reading an article? Tying a few different technologies together might allow for this at a certain point in time.
The other aspect is the need to experiment. Innovation is one of the most powerful facets of decentralization. Blockchain technology is very young and steem is no exception. So we are going to see many different solutions offered to some of the problems. As different approaches are taken through the SMTs, we will see certain things that work while others fail.
Steemians are going to steer the ship. As more appears on the blockchain, we are going to be given the ability to "vote with our feet". With the formation of so many new applications, people will decide where they want to go. Those apps that try to control or censor, will end up being put under since people will simply leave. Ones that have communities that do not fit what people are looking for might tend to lag behind others. The advantage is people have incentive to try new things since tokens can be created to help fund projects.

YouTube Helping To Grow D.Tube
@heimindanger did not offer any numbers but he did mention that there are a lot of people from YouTube starting to post on D.Tube. In this instance, YouTube is D.Tube's greatest ally. Their changing of the compensation program, excluding many of the smaller posters,is causing a mass exodus. We had 20K the other day, perhaps that is where many of them came from.
What is encouraging is that @heimindanger is focused upon one thing: making sure the site works well. He is not concerned with creating a token or expanding into something else. He only wants D.Tube to work in an optimal manner. That is the type of developers we need on this blockchain. Now, I am not a technical expert but @heimindanger seems like a very smart cookie and that he knows what he is doing. Each update to D.Tube creates a much better product. His commitment will pay off for all of us.

We Are Learning As We Go; This Is All New
@wwf talks about anarchy and how what we are experiencing is us learning how to operate in this environment. While this seems like an odd statement, it actually is exactly where we are at. @ned did not talk like a founder and CEO. In fact, often he referred to the community taking over allowing him to step back. @heimindanger made reference to the same thing when talking about bots which he is not for. Even thought there is a person behind every bot, he feels that they are more malicious than beneficial. However, he did state that those individual had the right to create the bots and we shouldn't stop that.
That is anarchy. The community decides what it will do. Again, down the road, with other options available, if bots are decided to be counter-productive, mass migration can take place.
This is a different arena for us. We are accustomed to having Daddy tell us what we can and cannot do. Often we hate it wishing we had more freedom. Then, when something is done that we do not like, on here especially, people scream for someone to fix it. Hard to find that person when nobody is in charge.
My point is that we are very early in the evolution of this blockchain. Whatever thoughts I had of the potential of STEEM are now shot. I realized I was limiting what is truly possible. 100K entrepreneurs creating all different kinds of businesses on this network is really going to be powerful. We will see innovation like never before.
And all of it will only increase the value of the entire ecosystem.
Yes folks, the Age of Abundance is rapidly approaching STEEM.
