After just over four months on Steem, I’ve reached the 1,000 follower milestone! Of course, the number of followers in itself doesn’t really mean anything. We all know that the majority of them are probably some type of bot or inactive account, but it’s a nice round number and that traditionally calls for a celebration - or a celebratory post as the case may be!
It may have looked easy (or maybe it didn’t, what do i know!) but in reality I have been working my ass off for the last four months and I never expected the level of success that I have achieved. Pretty much every second of free time when I’m not at my full-time job or doing things with my family has been spent writing or developing something to help improve the Steem platform. My wife really thinks I’ve joined a cult :-)
So how did I do it? I’ve written about this before, but I’ll reiterate it here - I believe that to be successful on Steem (and many other things in life) you need to create value for others. I create value mostly through my development efforts, and that type of work is highly appreciated here, but that’s not the only way to create value.
If I learn something new (usually about how the Steem platform works) which I suspect many people on here don’t know, I make a post about it. That creates value. Entertainment creates value as well - I like to upvote posts that are funny or otherwise entertain me by reading them. All sorts of different things create value for all sorts of different people.
I’m certain that every single person on here has some skill, talent, ability - whatever - that would create value for others if shared. The current community on SteemIt definitely values certain things more highly than others - such as cryptocurrency info and development projects as I mentioned. But I hope that the upcoming releases of “hivemind” and SMTs will lead to new communities that value all sorts of different things and show it through the rewards system.
So there you have it - the recipe for success:
- Work your ass off
- Create value
Collect underpants(oops, wrong recipe!)- Profit!
Last, but not least, I want to say a big THANK YOU to all of my followers and supporters! Without you, well...I would have 0 followers, and while that’s technically a round number it’s not exactly something to celebrate.
