So I decided to go mucking around in the Steemit API Docs section of the site to start getting my feet wet on whatever the hell would be necessary in order to realize my idea for a new kind of social media app. Out of curiosity I opened the Steemit App Center too, just to take a look at the breadth of what was available and maybe check to see if anyone had hit upon my idea.
I was blown away by what I found. It took me the better part of an hour to scroll through the entire thing (mind you I didn't check out all of the apps, only the ones I found interesting). I thought there'd be some folks that might find some of these useful, so here they are, the best apps whittled down from the wider list:
Steem.cool by @blueorgy: You know how wondering when your rep is going to go up by one can sometimes be really frustrating? Well, good news: our friend @blueorgy has made an app that tells you exactly where you are and how far you have to go until that coveted reputation hits the next milestone.
SteemStory by @roelandp: This is a cute little app that takes you through your own history and statistics on the Steemit platform since you began in a way that is very appealing. It's kind of like a summary of your Steemit self. It only takes a minute or two to watch to completion. I highly recommend giving it a shot.
Anon Steem by @someguy123: A way to get an anonymous account on Steemit. Sort of neat to have as an option, though I'm not exactly sure what you'd use it for.
SteemPi by @techtek: This one hasn't been fully realize yet, it seems, but the idea is incredibly exciting. We're talking about Steem becoming a threat to traditional television and cable networks.
SteemViz by @ausbitbank: This is a really cool app for looking at 'the matrix' of Steem, so to speak. You can see posts in real time without having to refresh continually, which might be handy to have on in the background while you do other things.
Steem Stats by @jesta: I tried to avoid apps that were already very well known, but it must be said that @jesta's Steem Stats is especially interesting and useful. It's a must use for hardcore Steemians.
Steem Shelves by @rhondak: This is an interesting service that I've been sort of wanting for some time... guess it already exists. For 2 SBD per link you can put your blockchain long form story on a shelf. Now if only there was a separate fiction site that allowed long form stories to continually receive rewards....
Steem Streamby @roelandp: Another real-time Steem app showing what users are upvoting, commenting, etc. on in real time. This one has a graph though. Ooh. Data.
Dead Followers by @mynameisbrian: A great way to see how many followers you actually have. That is, it tells you how many are active.
SteeM.V.P. by @roelandp: It seems @roelandp is the M.V.P. of this list, and his awesome app SteeM.V.P. is one of the reasons why. See which of your followers and upvoters has had your back the most.
Steem Hater by davidk: Hater's are gonna hate, but this shows you how much and who.
Steem-O-Graph by @roelandp: A great and simple tool for visualizing your followers. Pretty remarkable to look at, actually.
Steem Verify by @steemitqa: Ever wonder about the awesome little verification signatures that folks like yours truly have at the bottom of their blog posts? Wonder no more. For a small amount of SBD you can get what's essentially an "I'm who I say I am!" badge. Their well worth it, if only because they're cool looking.
And those are just the ones I found super interesting! Note that I listed no apps that are alternative platforms to Steemit (e.g. DTube, dMania, Zappl, ChainBB, etc.). This would have made the post way too long, and these sort of deserve their own post or posts.
